Jenas transfer rumors

Whispers over the net from Spurs Odyssey, Spurs Community and FTL are hinting that Jermaine Jenas has handed in a transfer request today. This would come as something of a shock unless the Milan rumours are true or someone is making it worth his while to stick in a request and lose his loyalty bonuses.

If it is true the timing is awful just a week away from the start of the Premier League. As it is JJ and Palacious are by far and away our strongest central midfield partnership and the thought of only having Pud and O'Horror as cover is bad enough - the idea that it is Palacious partnered by the two mentioned would be a disaster as neither can really hack the Premier League. We really should be buying a central midfielder either to provide cover for JJ or as a replacement with JJ as cover. If this is true and he does go we will need two quality central midfielders before the window closes if we are to have a decent season.

JJ has his many faults and his many critics, most because we all know he has the strength, skill, pace and talent but we don't always see it. He is extremely fit and the only box to box midfield player we have at Tottenham currently. The idea that we suddenly need another two midfield players doesn't bare thinking about.

Bassong Official

As I said back in June and earlier today.

A rather less terse statement than the Offical site had used yesterday.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of Sebastien Bassong to the Club, following the player successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.

The defender moved to St James' Park in July 2008 from Metz where he made 79 appearances in three seasons.

The 23-year-old played 34 times for Newcastle last season in his debut campaign in the Premier League."

Now, to get his two game suspension out of the way.

Bassong almost done

As revealed by The Shelf at the end of June, Spurs have finally followed up their interest in Bassong from Newcastle and, according to Sky, he has passed a medical and a fee has been agreed with "The World's Best Club". How "The World's Best Fan's" are likely to see this departure is unknown.

I hope it won't be too hard to complete personal terms as Bassong is currently on a reported £5000 a week. Either he is stupid or has the world's worst agent to be paid such a low amount.

Bassong comes from the Clairefontaine academy along with the likes of Anelka, Gallas, Henry and Louis Saha so let's hope he was sick for the "Stroppy, spoilt child" part of their training.

Seriously, Newcastle fans rate him highly and have said he didn't do much wrong considering the rest of his team mates were imploding around and will provide good cover for King and Woodgate. I doubt Dawson will be going anywhere at the minute as it is possible Dawson and Bassong will be the starting pairing against Liverpool but if Bassong establishes himself Dawson could well be going in the future.

Bent Sold

All done and dusted thanks to a rather terse message on the official site:

"We have reached agreement for the transfer of Darren Bent to Sunderland.

Darren joined us from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2007 and went on to make 79 First Team appearances in our colours.

We thank Darren for his contribution and wish him every success for the future."

They fail to mention he was the clubs top scorer last season with 17 goals. Unfortunatly we have replaced him with someone who is likely to score even less.

Bent's playing days were numbered at Spurs when Sandra Redknapp went ahead of him in the pecking order.

Maybe it was because Sandra did a very good Ray Parlour impression. All the best Darren, here's hoping the money raised will be spent on a good striker.

Bent flying up north

Mr Blurry Cam strikes again. Usually found in the world of secret-yet-to-be-announced mobile phones and Apple products, Mr Blurry Cam appeared at Heathrow Terminal 5 and took a picture of this boarding card for a flight to Newcastle in the name of a Mr D Bent.

We are still awaiting official conformation from Twitter.
