Villa make offer for Bentley and Hudd

Vile have made an offer for Bentley and Huddlestone in the region of £15 million according to SO. It is an interesting offer as we paid that for Bentley a year ago but, as we all know, he has been shocking all season and I won't be sorry to see him go. The breakdown must be about £10 million for Bentley and £5 million for Big Tom which seems fair for each. I will be more sorry to see Tom go as he can knock some balls around beautifully and can hit a ball but his lack of pace and dreadful turn can really leave the midfield exposed. Many teams pressurise Tom and leave him little time on the ball and a team with fast pace can easily over run the middle if Huddlestone is partnered with Wilson. At Vile, similar things will happen. Tom is much better suited to the slower games of Spain and Italy.

Of course, this offer leaves us good ground to manoeuvre for Ashley Young, the winger we missed out on when Levy was clinging to the purse strings a little too tightly and is now going to cost him more in transfer fees and wages. Young on the left, with a slightly improved better ball and Modric through the centre and Lennon right would cause massive problems for opposition teams. No longer could they double up on Lennon knowing we lack pace on the other side and they have to drop deep to stop Modric putting though balls for the strikers. Interesting.

COYS!

First of all.. It's Villa, try and be a bit more original than the shite down the road.
Second of all and i will say this one final time.. Young is not for sale and i promise you, he will still be a Villa player come september.

Good day.

I've told many a Spurs fan already - you will not get Ashley Young. Spurs seems to throw cash around a fair bit but do you really have £25m+ available? Plus, Spurs fans seem to think Young would be happy to take a downwards step to Spurs. Sorry lads, it ain't gonna happen!

I still don't think Villa is a step up from Spurs. You had one better season in quite a few and haven't won anything for years. Spurs will finish ahead of Villa next season.

It does amuse me when fans of a team whose prize asset is being talked about climb out from under their rocks and proclaim their annoyance at such notions of them moving...

...like you guys actually have a say in who stays and who goes.

Ben you may be right and he won't come to Spurs, but one thing is for certain - he won't be at Villa much longer. We ended 5th and lost Berba, Keane and Carrick. Villa will lose Barry, Young and whoever else is any good (can't actually think of anyone right now but you get the drift) cos that is what happens in England. Get used to it and celebrate the fact that you have a good manager and an exciting team but that's it.

Young simply isnt going to go to Spurs, no offence but Chelsea will have trouble getting Ash so spurs shouldnt even bother. He is MON's golden boy, the player who has come on leaps and bounds since joining Villa. Also MON is the man who made Barry who he is now. Good luck for next season though.

If we get £10m for Bentley we'll have made back what we paid out, the rest of his fee was based on appearances and honours for both club and country. I'd be a little unhappy to see both players leave but don't see a place in the midfield for Huddlestone with what we already have. If they move both players will do well for Villa, likewise if Ashley Young does come the other way, he'll provide us with the balance and pace that we need to compliment Lennon on the other flank. Although, I get the feeling the Villa boys don't really like that scenario....

If Hudd had the pace needed for the prem then he wouldn't leave.

His touch and weight is unquestionable but this is the premiership - not some foreign league.

Look Spurs boys, if Ash does go then it would be to a BIGGER club, i.e Chelsea, Real, Arsenal etc. Your not exactly going to offer him Champs footy anytime soon and neither are us at this present time, but with some additions and him staying we could flirt again with the big boys.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Villa play Huddlestone at the back. In terms of cetral mid there's a whole load at Villa already who are probably better all round than Hudd. Petrov was the player of the season last year, Sidwell, Reo Coker, Gardener's had a couple of storming games for the u21's, Hudd's not going to get a look in. He could force Zat Knight out at the back though, which would be an interesting move.
As for Young moving to the capital; maybe, but I'd say that Chelsea would be the only team with enough cash to force Villas hand.

It's true Ashley is away on holidays so he hasn't been at spurs today, press would have been all over it. Villa to spurs is not a backwards step, but its not a step forward either, spurs will come on a bit next season and villa spurs, everton, man city will be pressing for 4th 5th 6th. But you have to ask yourselves spurs fans why ash would want to take a side step when he is happy at the villa, just signed a new contract and most importantly he's an arse fan. Ash wont be going anywhere unless top 4 come in with 30+million, mon is happy to let him go and ash feels like he wants to move on. None of 3 are likely, not this window anyway.

why do villa fans seem to think it is a step up from spurs?... far from it! gareth barry was a golden boy too wasnt he? and wheres he gone? villa are far from a step up from spurs what is this based on last season finishing position? our bad start under ramos was the only thing that kept us below you, in the games harry was manager (the 30 remaining games of the season) we accumulated more points than villa. flahsy cup team? no whats this based on we have a cup in the last few years? villa are gunnna be in exactly the same position we have been in the last few years and the same position we are gunna be in the next few years, and it will come clearer next summer, because everytime we have a team close to getting to a top four team one of them rips the heart out of us by taking our best players carrick, berbatov, keane although the latter has returned. and thats exactly whats gunna happen to villa barrys gone not in upwards step by any means but sideways and for triple his money and most players will, so when not if ashley young goes this summer or next your be back to square one the same as us in the vicious circle of sign a good player have a him few years at the most get a good team about to challenge the top 4 and then loose him to a top four side with more money and champions league football, and this in my opinion puts the likes of us and villa in the same group no better at all, in that group with the likes of us and everton and that where we will stay for the time being all three teams building a team capable of challenging and then having a player or two poached and then back to the start of the cycle while one of the other two takes their turn

critical thing to bear in mind when comparing the ronaldo and berbatov situations is that for both players huge chunks of money were thrown about. For £35m Ashley Young is anybodys, but nobody's going to be spending that on him. Minimum £25m is the fee for Young at a guess.

Just a thought guys.. Maybe, just maybe.. And I know this may sound like a crazy idea, but maybe.. We should wait and see. No-one can honestly claim to know what players are doing, not even the mystical oracles that are the 'ITK's.

Personally I would like to see Young at Spurs and I can see it happening, however, I wouldn't be surprised if didn't... At the end of the day, we haven't had a left winger for years and even though I believe Harry is the man who will isolate this problem, I'm of the opinion he'll either play Taarabt or Dos Santos (Assuming they're here next season) or he'll spend a figure less than £10m to bring one of our less extravagant transfer targets in, i.e. Michel Bastos (Remember him?)

To sum up, there's no point arguing over where Young is and where he's going as I'm sure he doesn't know himself.

There is absolutely no evidence of Young leaving Villa. Yes, he is probably currently worth maybe 15M and it's Obvious Martin O'neill will ask for about 35M. No dice. If he can shrug off Liverpool he can shrug off Spurs.
More likely that spurs will sign some hulking great africans in the middle of the park and will probably do pretty well next year. Bentley and Hudd aren't your best players and will free up valuable funds for transfers. I think Spurs will look a lot different next season, but no Asley Young i'm afraid. If anyone throws £18m at Villa for Ashley Young they will bite. It is a sign of the times. Be it Spurs, Chelsea, United, Liverpool or a Champions League team.

It is how it goes, and Villa are no different than Spurs in that regard. Young was on Spurs' radar before Villa landed him, the only reason why it didn't happen was because of the asking price in correspondence to his experience was unrealistic. Now that he has the experience it will be pickings for those with the money.

I still find it funny that many of you have stated that Spurs would be a downward step. You have to remember that prior to O'Neill and Lerner's arrival Villa were the classic yo-yo team of the Premiership. Spurs are one of the best run clubs in the Premiership who annually feature in the Top 20 rich list for the year. Granted we haven't performed well in the Premiership but since its creation we have one more trophies or "flashy cups" than the Villans.

Lastly, as much as we love our respected teams you have to remember it is a business and money talks.

Do any of you Villa fans think its even in the slightest strange that NO-ONE AT VILLA HAS QUASHED THESE RUMOURS - 'wrongly' unsettling your 'star' player...

we are linked with 20 players a day and so are our 'star players'linked with 20 clubs-- they have better things to do - such as medicals for bentley and huddlestone - along with finding a way to mange petrov hudd young milner and bentley in our aquad rotation next season.

no one from villa has made a comment becuase there is no comment to be made. I think when Man City enquired about Carew a comment was mad by MON as they are a threat in the footballing world.

I reckon MON & Young had a good laugh when Twat Redknapp made those comments about young.

Also what has Harry the big mouth twat achieved in the premiership.

He's only good at winning cup competitions so it looks like he will be well suited to your club.

I've just read through this whole blog as a neutral. Very interesting... Firstly mon is a very good judge and huddlestone is of more worth than young to either team. If villa get huddlestone and anything more and give young, then the shrewdness is clear. young is a quality player but the young huddlestone is a step up. mon knows this I'm sure and I can actually see him moving to a 'bigger' club elsewhere unless mon has a word in his shell like. young would actually not look so great at a bigger club and yes I do include spurs in that bracket. oh and young is a spurs supporter not arsenal. if villa get huddlestone and bentley and spurs get young, I guarantee mon is the shrewdest mover in the market and villa will be on the up. all very interesting to see how it pans out though.

''Young has two football playing younger brothers. Lewis Young is a second year scholar at Watford, and 12 year old Kyle Young trains at the Arsenal Academy.[12] Ashley was an Arsenal fan in his youth (Ian Wright was his favourite player) and his parents are Tottenham Hotspur supporters. His brothers are also Arsenal supporters''

Thats from wikipedia and various other sites, in an interview he even sad he was and ARSENAL FAN!now shutup!

Now fuck off you not getting Young

MON commented on Carew as that was a deal thjat wasn't going to be done! No comment here as this is a distinct possibility. You are desperate for central midfielder, and we for an attacking left winger... How easy do you want me to make it for you???

If i rememmber rightly, MON stated, not so long ago, that he would keep hold of Young and Gabby at all cost's. He also said that these players are under contract and that this was the most important thing. Even if Ash did want to leave do you think MON would make it that easy for him to go, Barry + Liverpool last summer anyone? He has a four year contract and to be honest i think he will honour it for at least another year before he has his head turned, to be honest i dont think Spurs are that attractive to him anyways. If he goes back to London then it will be with either Chelsea or Arsenal. Deal with it!

Ye are all f11ck1ng ret arded! I mean come on like Martin o'Neill has compaired Ashley Young to Messi on more than one ocassion, I tell you what, go watch premiership years where they talk about spurs "nearly" signing Ronaldo, Vieri etc. one thing straight I like spurs think we are too similar teams, both with the same goal and its teams like us and everton that hinder our own progression, but 90& of the sh1t on here is just deluded nonesense! He just won YPFAPOTY he owes absolutely everything to o'Neill and Robertson, signed a new deal. . . I could go on but its half one, go the f11ck to bed

We've lost Barry and Laursen. If you think MON will let go of Ash, our current crown jewels, for any money you are seriously deluded. If he did he might as well pack his bags as well.

O'neill said that young was worth £72million half way through the season. Im sure a lower bid would be accepted but we wouldnt settle for less than £30 which i cant see spurs paying. We all saw how stubborn mon can be in the transfer window

You crazy, crazy deluded fools. There is no way on this planet that you'll get AY. None whatsoever. Notwithstanding the fact that you're about £25M short of the asking price, why on earth would he move there when he's clearly destined for a Chelsea/Manure move at some time? Oh, and "vile"? What have Villa done to deserve you using their neandrathal neighbours' term for them, when almost all of their supporters are well known to be the worst in the League? Maybe Arsenal fans were right about you lot,,,

Young is better than any of Spuz players, MON has enabled him to win the player of the month award 3 times in a calendar year, (last year) a feat never before accomplished by anyone. He is/was an Arsenal fan, he has just signed a new contract, 'Arry has never won anything and is all talk. He would have to play in a team followed by bufoons and blind optimists with childlike dreams of grandeur after only ever finishing above 6th place twice in 20 odd years. Think before you open your mouths or type posts you over optimistic daydreamers and football manager 2009 players!!!!

I know Spurs fans may feel that players like Young will have their heads turned by the prospect of eating Jellied Eels and going to see the queen, but you forget one factor - Martin O'Neil! He got Ashley to come to Villa and him and the coaching staff have made him the player everyone seems to want. Harry and the other merry go round managers at Spurs can't offer him anything more. Yes we had a good season last year and we will have another good one next, you will probably do better but it's Spurs who seem to be offering the whole midfield up for sale (another building season again then! - we had a few of them) We will take your midfield off you and make them England contenders again - cheers me ol' mukkas

I shall likewise book mark this page anon Spuds fan!!! Thats so I can go Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! be a sport and be sure you come back when you havent signed him come the end of the window. I think its fair to say you are obviously deluded and will struggle to remember which page you book marked. You need to sell in order to buy, we may not have billions to throw about but it is not necessary for us to sell in order to purchase. I think you will find thats down to our shrewd investments last year. How much did you spend again? shocking!!!

I'm not one for pathetic pointless arguements. We are both big clubs with great history.

But I can more or less guarantee you, Young won't be coming your way.

Four reasons really.

1. MON would rather eat his shorts then lose a third key player in 2 months.

2. We got a thing squad and don't need the money.

3. Young doesn't want to leave. And if he eventually does, it would be to a top 4 team more then likely.

4. We would only accept a cash deal which history has proven with Barry. And I can't see you forking out £ 25 Mill + for Young. If you decide to do so, good luck.

Young would be 10...yes 10 times the player he is under the coaching regime of 'Arry and his backroom staff.

If he is lucky, he might end up as good as Lennon.

WHAT?
Head down & run to the byline like a headless chicken & pass into thin air Lennon?
Do me a favour.
I'm 40 years old & slightly over weight but even I could pick a better pass out to my fellow players then boy blunder Lennon.
He's not a nats nut compared to Young
As for Arry & his backroom staff making him any better.....HA!
same old school training, same old school results.......NO real progress made with ANY team he's managed
