Jol still for the chop?
Rumors tonight from well connected sources on COYS still reckon Jol is for the sack three games into the season. The sources are credible and have good form in all things ITK but have been wrong in the past. I for one hope they are completely off the mark for various reasons.
For one it shows Levy has learnt nothing in the time he has been manager of Spurs. You don't give £40 million to a manager who you are going to sack three games into the season.
Secondly if you are going to sack the manager you do it in the close season. If Levy does plan to give Jol his P45 then he should have been brave enough to do it weeks ago - and if his decision was made after a couple of dodgy results then the man is a fool.
Jol has led us to back to back 5th place finishes, and consecutive UEFA cup qualifications via the league - the first manager to do that for nearly 30 years - we also scored over 100 goals last year.
The fans today demonstrated they back Jol 100% at WHL and the new manager would have to equal fifth at the very least or Levy looks a fool. This is against the backdrop of upheaval, players being bemused that Jol has gone, new systems and tactics that will take time to bed in and the new guy (probably Ramos if rumors are true) may not want the current players and of course the current crop of players may well not fit the new system.
To add to all that the media and fans across the country would rip Spurs to pieces. Is Levy about to make a huge mistake? I hope not.

i dont think theres any truth behind these rumours to be honest...after backing him 100 % in pre-season, it would be ridiculous to even think about sackin jol after just two games....knee jerk reactions from fickle spurs fans...

Your main argument centres on Levy backing Jol to the tune of £40 million. This line of reasoning is weakened by the structure of our club, remember it is Comolli who is primarily responsible for bringing in new players. So just because a large amount of money has been spent doesn't mean Jol is likely to retain his job. I'd love to know the real breakdown of influence between Jol, Comolli & Levy on new transfers.
Kaboul, Bale & Bent are all top signings for us. There can be little doubt that these three are ideally suited to the club.
Yes, we have come 5th two seasons in a row. Some of our wins have been excellent, while others have been scrappy/lucky at best. This is slightly different from grinding out wins when playing poorly - which is the sign of true champions. We still do not seem capable of playing consistent football against any of the other top 7 teams.
For the past two seasons our midfield has been unbalanced. Today, the pairing of Huddlestone & Jenas was much improved. Derby are not of true premiership quality. The upcoming games against Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool will be the real test of our midfield. We still desperately need a quality left midfield.
I love Jol for what he has done, and do not want to lose him as a manager. He just needs to stop putting out such an unbalanced midfield, i think this is the cause of our frustration. The pairing of Zokora & Jenas is not one i like. The more Huddlestone plays this season the better our football will be.
Lastly, Berbatov & Bent will be a formidable partnership. This combination should prove our strongest.

paxton ... you should know better ... Jol's not going anywhere. It's 3 games for gawd-sakes! Surely even for Spurs fans, such talk of sacking after one week is pure lunacy.
It's on the players to play to their potential. They did that today. Jenas showed why he's a starter. Malbranque was pretty good, as was Routledge. Bent is getting used to his new teamates and Taarabt showed he can be a great sub.
All of the sudden Jol looks like a genius. It's down to the players. The gaffer can't strap on studs and do it for them!

i think i know who one of the particular itk's are and as the news is coming from him, im slightly worried it may well be true.
i for one hope jol stays, though i do hope he does not come under further pressure if we do not perform vs man u and arsenal.

Comolli is the bad seed is this structure. This 34 year old scout, who as a Director of Football, is in charge of Spurs. On the continent footballpeople don't rate him. He never played and isn't a footballman, he's a fan, like us, as Levy is a businessman. Those people go for names and status and panic while there are a few injuries. BMJ is a footballman, he knows football. I understood that on the continent he's highly rated for his skills and even being chased to take the Dutch job. BMJ turned the club around in little time. Fact. They should listen to his knowledge. If they don't ? Then we will end up nowhere and pay too much paper for prospects that need a long way to go before they are ready to play for our Mighty Spurs ! So the board must choose; Say no to BMJ as manager and I'm afraid that there will be No New Glory at WHL in the upcoming years. They can better first have a chat with this french geezer. COYS

i say, sack Jol, bring in a quality manager like Ramos or perhaps Klismann. Jol reached he's limit with the club, he will just make us a UEFA cup team. Spurs has been constantly tryin to play football like Arsenal but the fact is they're half as good as them technically and when Spurs play physical teams like Everton, Reading, Sunderland etc they play like pussies. Look at yest's game againts Derby, 3-0 into half time, WTF is Defoe doin on the bench till 75th min? Bring him in to replace Keane who had a terrible game. He's tactical awareness is poor. I appreciate what Jol has done so far for the club so far but it's time to move on. SACK JOL~!!!!

when you see dumb, groundless press invented rumours....please dont write about them. You are harming the club you claim to support.
Jol's position was NEVER under threat. There is an article in Topspur (the club magazine) that describes exactly how transfers are agreed on between Jol, Commoli, Hughton and Levy.
I just wish people who say they are funs wouldnt damage their own club by sinking to the level of the redtops and mas media....

Jol in very general terms has an inconsistency that is deeply ingrained, be it motivational skills, effective personality, tactics etc etc call it what you will. Our form has been going like a Yo Yo, just like Like G Francis and Hoddle before him. He is unable to maintain a standard consistently. I say 5th place each season is not good enough,(which Jol is capable of) we have spent a lot of money and deserve better. Call me what you want armchair fan, football manager computer player etc etc. Jol is not going to do the best job with the players we now have at our disposal

Amazing that the players want to play for BMJ then ay? Makes me laugh how many peeps keep saying, "there's conflict in our transfer buying policy" .GET OFF IT!! Im just as pissed off as the next fan we never got a leftie, but please instead of putting the clubs entire transfer policy into question!! And just because some bookie got twitchy and stopped taking bets,don't mean there was any REAL pressure on BMJ, even a blind man can see any team missing their first three centerbacks would struggle.

After watching the 3 matches played by spurs , I am convinced that the team will start to gel as more matches down the road. We are always a slow starter but Jenas and Zokora is rather lightweight against stronger teams.They have the knack of being robbed off the balls easily and they will fall looking for sympathy from the ref. everytime.Pls play Hudd more often and he will provide what we have been missing since Carrick left, the good varieties of passes for the ST.Play Taarabt on the left more often and I believe he will excel. Good footwork and more playing time to be more composed and confident.
Come on you spurs stop being fickle minded!!! MJ will bring us glory.

Fact is; we've finished fifth for the last 2 seasons, so Jol has done better than any other manager we've had for years.
That's why it all seems great and we're all chuffed, and now expect more.
Fact is; if any of the 'top 4' had finished fifth for the last 2 seasons, they'd be pis**d off.
Fifth is better than we've had but its not where we wanna be.
Question: is BMJ the man to take us to where we wanna be?
Only the board can make that decision.

Can everyone please shut up about a left sided midefielder! The season we only missed out on 4th place by some final bag luck we played about 4 different (non left footed players) in the position. The only real negative difference in our squad has been the loss of a top four standard central midfielder. Chelsea have Lampard, Liverpool Gerrard, Aresenal Fabragas, United Scholes/Carrick/Hargreaves.
Jenas is wideley regarded as not being good enough to play in a top four team, so how can we expect to break in there with him running the midfield? How naive is it to think that all we need to do is buy a player with a left foot and all our problems will be solved. Huddleston and Zakora have potential but are still along way from being that standard.
