Bent in to replace Defoe

It sounds like Defoe is finally leaving after rumor after rumor during the time he has been a Spurs player. Quality people on FTL say that JD now just wants to play every week and he will never be given that at Spurs with Keane and Berbatov clearly the first choice strike partnership. Defoe claims he loves the club and does not have a bad word to say about Spurs but needs to play more often then he can now. it will be interesting to see who comes in for him and unless it is one of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United would a move elsewhere be actually the right move for Jermaine?

Bent is now almost certainly a Spurs player unless he fails a medical. Scoring 12 goals this season for a dreadful Charlton side is good going. He has pace and can strike a ball very well and it will be interesting to see how he does at Spurs.

COYS!

Spurs can afford him our books are healthier than most and we run at a constant profit. In the last 3 seasons we have spent a total of about 4m whenb you add up who we have sold against who we have bought. This means that we still have fortunes to spend.

The question is would we buy him and that depends on the price tag

Sours couldn't "affort" him? Are you having a laugh???? Where the hell did you get that info from? Unlike Liverpool before you sold your soul to America, we don't have any financial worries.

But if Defoe goes, I'll be majorly pissed off with that.

If anyone HAS to leave from our forward line to make way for Bent, and I stress "has" as I think we are doing okay with everyone up front when they are fit, it will have to be Mido.

Spot on Othello

Mido can get going, but Defoe has to be kept.

I'd welcome Darren Bent anyday, but not at Defoes expense

As for the Ghaly incident, he knows he was wrong, he's made an apology, let's forget about it. He did loose a whole row of teeth representing Spurs and soldiered on so let's give him another chance.
If he is sold in the summer, then no great loss, but time to move on.

To the Numpty - Tottenham are financially stable, making yearly profits, have a controlled wage structure and are under no pressure to sell any of our top players. And we certainly don't need to pay silly wages. It's called sound run business off the field.

Jealously is a bitch isn't it

I am also a Liverpool fan.
I would be gutted if we signed Bent.
We are on the verge of signing our second Brazilian for the new season in Alexandre Pato, a 17/18 yr old striker.
If other rumours are to be believed, Tony Cottee has said today that Tevez is on his way to Liverpool, the man has huge connection at West Ham.
I also expect us to make another big name signing up front, and Bent is not that player, We already still own a player of a similar moud to Bent in Cisse.

PS: you can have him if you want.

I also think Tevez is on his way to Liverpool. Good move for both parties and a bonus kick in the bollox for West Ham (the wankers).

Tevez is a quality player, far too good for the Hamsters and i hope to watching him still playing in the prem next season, just not with WHU (so wish they get relegated)

Hopefully Spurs will finally sort out the left side in the summer and after watching him play again so well on thursday, MG Pedersen would certainly be a player worth pursuing, especially as Blackburn have not qualified for Europe.

Good Luck Wigan ;)

Defoe's staying and bent is not worth his price tag. Mido will go and we'll probably but a young, cheaper foreigner of quality. Quite likely french or african.

Defoe can go, he never seems to build up form anymore and seems to be half the player I watched at the lane a few years back on his debut.

As for Bent I would like to see him in a spurs shirt,(and yes hes well in the reach of our budget) but maybe he should replace Mido not Defoe.
Lets face it Mido is a pile of dog shit.
Also maybe two new strikers - Defoe and Mido out
Bent and ???? in?

My god, those scousers are real thick.

Anyway, it's pretty much a done deal with Bent and Kaboul.

..and in regards to not being able to afford Bent well Spurs couldn't be more richer at the mo! In fact, until the Americans came along, Spurs could pretty much out-bid the red half of scouse land.

thick why?
For the record, I am the one that posted about the Brazilian kid and Cisse etc.
Nothing I said in that post was bad or negative towards any club.
I am also from Dublin.
Bent is over-rated IMHO we dont want him, I think 95% of Liverpool fans agree on that, he is not good enough for us. We want top top quality, thats what we need, not Bent, I'd be happy with the likes of Eto'o if it can be done, and the recent signs from our new owners and Rafa suggest the money will be there to compete at the top end of the transfer market. Liverpool and the new owners will be out to make a statement this summer and will do everything in their power to make Liverpool a top top force once again, they have to in order to make LFC a successfull purchace.
Spurs can have Bent. Thats not being bitter either.

It would SCARE YOU if you knew just how much money Spurs have to spend this summer. We don't let our players leave for free - always some mug teams like the Spam or Pompey will buy um.

Why are you the richest club?
Its probably because you dont spend any money and all your best players leave.
Cambell, Carrick etc
Big clubs dont sell their best players.
Whats the point in money in the bank if its not invested in the team.

For goodness sake, you've not challenged the big four ever and dont even qualify for europe every season.

One thing you can say about Jol is that he seems to run a happy ship. Keeping top players is crucial these days and it isn't just the money. When you are earning 2 mill a year wouldn't you rather play for a club where you are appreciated than go to one like Liverpool for 4 mill where you'll get rotated the week after scoring a hat trick. Why not be a millionaire and a local hero.

to all those liverpool fans, consider this... man-for-man tottenham are overall better than liverpool.

GK - granted, robbo aint all that

RB - Chimbonda dominates Finnan
CB - Dawson vs. Agger. One lucky goal for Agger against Chelski. Dawson is a future England captain.
CB King vs. Carrager - King everytime, Carrager is overrated
LB - liverpool can win that one...but not if we sign Bale (likely?)

RM - Lennon by far. who actually plays for liverppol on the right these days? a budget Lennon in the form of ex-scum Pennant who is shite.

CM - granted we cant compete with gerrard, mascherano or alonso. but zakora is coming along very nicely.

LM - Malbranque is doing a very good job - better than Bolo Zenden or Mark Gonzales. If we get Gamst then we are definately stronger than liverpool.

Up front - Keane, Berba and Defoe - need i say more? really not disappointed we didnt get Kuyt - he is nothing compared to Berba.

So Liverpool fans, shut up, and watch out for us next season. man-for-man we win. gobshites.

Wow, you have academy mates who saw Defoe signing an agreement. Did they bring a desk out onto the pitch then so everyone could see?

However, you might be right because I have a friend who makes pens and he sold one to Pompey and he said he saw Defoe use it to sign an agreement. I used to have a friend who made paper and once he said he saw an agreement but it can't be the same one because this was a few years ago.

Im a spurs fan and Defoe is whack! He looks at the floor when he runs and just shots, couldnt pull off a berbatov/keane innevative pass if he tryed! We need team players! Left winger was required two seasons ago and whats with the c rate dodgy left backs! The style of player we have been missing is a kaka, zidane, ballack ,Steven Gereard type who will be courageous and drive forward toward te goal! Im not suggesting we can bring in players like that, just giving an example of what we require! Some innovative flair. And just to really fuck some of you off Lennon has so much to learn! Should not be playing for England yet!

The league is 45 minutes gone and we're speaking of who's coming and going already. Let's look at the real problem of Spurs. Continuity. Yes that's the real reason we struggled at the beginning of the season. New players at key positions...i.e. Berbatov trying to find rythm from the start, zokora trying to fill carricks boots, and Leds being out most of the year. Let's face the truth that continuity up the middle is the biggest problem. Now, that being said, next year with our midfield in tact, Berb's firing on all cylinders and hopefully Leds healthy, the only thing Spurs next to do is sure up the left side with quality of Pederson or Joe Cole, Robben, Downing, Petrov. I don't see any reason why we can't snap one of them up. Then the last hole is getting a hard nosed left back to play DEFENSE, instead of being another link up left winger. We've got plenty of pace and link up with Jenas, Hudds, Zokora and Lennon in the midfield. Do this with the same squad we had this year, and I guarantee Champs League play. Changing players at key positions when you have quality there already does nothing but take you more than 2 months to gel.

Well, do we really need Bent when we already have Defoe? Liverpool can have Bent because you need another man alongside Kuyt/Crouch. I think I'll stick with the earlier-rumoured Johan Elmander. Tall, good in the air and most of all, not expensive. Spurs spends more wisely than any other clubs. Anyway, CHEERS to Levy for not letting any American flag to be flying on the club's roof.

There maybe Uniteds, Cities and Rovers, BUT THERE'S ONLY ONE SPURS!!! COYS!!!

Spurs had an excellent season. Definitely something to build on now. We've got Sir Keith Mills on the board, and he's an excellent mover and shaker (behind the London Olympics bid). We've got bags of money to spend (7 million for finishing fifth, money from UEFA cup tv rights, gate receipts etc., some very rich board members).

I think we've played Zokora out of position all season. He's not a replacement for Carrick. He's excellent at breaking through midfield and causing havoc in the opposing half. Having him sit back and Jenas do this means we're wasting a great talent.
It'd be good to see Huddlestone develop in the holding position, but he's not up to it yet (he needs to get aggressive).

I think a few good signings for Spurs would be:

Zenden - he's a good squad player. Benitez has said this and he's helped gel the Liverpool team over the past couple of years. He's got bags loads of European experience, he's a left-sided player and he's Dutch. And I reckon he'll go for free.

Makelele - this is a bit of a long shot. But I don't know what his situation is at Chelsea. If he's ready to go, he'd be perfect for Spurs - all the experience that Davids had, but without the moaning.
He'd be perfect as a player who could protect the defence and his experience would greatly benefit Huddlestone.
Again, a squad player - he won't play all the time, but his contribution would be invaluable to the squad.

"Someone like Ribery/Ginola" - I don't really know who. But an out-and-out left winger is not what Tottenham need. We need some sort of guy who can open up a defence with clever runs and passes. I'm not convinced that Gamst Pedersen will provide this.

David Healy - Northen Ireland striker with Leeds. He's scored for fun at international level and I think he could be a good backup striker to have. We'd sign him for next-to-nothing.

Matthew Taylor - he's a decent left back and he gets forward a lot. Given that finding this elusive left winger is a big problem for Spurs (and many other teams) - having someone like him will give us some width and will allow players like Malbranque to tuck in more.

As for Darren Bent? He's a good player, but not for Spurs. He'll just get pissed off sitting on the bench.
It'd be great to hang to Defoe, but I wouldn't blame him if he moved.

I'd like to see Yakubu at Spurs - but I doubt he'll go.
Anyway, we've got Barnard and Dixon coming through the ranks - they're good strikers!

i think we should spend all of our tv money on tevez. he would be great up front with berbatov. then sell mido and defoe to free up more money for a tall striker to replace mido. we should then use the carrick money on a left winger, and the puma money on gareth bale and curtis davies.

We're about 5 key squad additions from breaking into that magic top 4.

To start with, we need 1 x a midfielder with creativity and 1 x a left winger with flair.

If we are being really picky you gotta swap Mido for some decent backup. We cant forget left back, either of Bale/Baines/Taylor.

And looks like we are about to sign this Kaboul as centre back cover.

Leaves just one top class midfield general/leader to top it off and we would be sorted.

So;
In: Huntelaar (Ajax) or Bent (striker),
Petrov (winger),
Schneider (mid playmaker),
Kaboul (CB),
Bale or Baines or Taylor (LB),
and a new Gerrard/Roy Keane type midfield player that commoli will find...:)

Bit of squad trimming too in the shape of Mido, Ghaly, Murphy, Gardner.

Lets face it, we are not a top 4 side yet and not far off. But it's imperative we continue to improve. Who ever we got to bring in has to be top quality only.

Im not asking for tooooo much am I?
