"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory." Bill Nicholson. SPURS

Spurs capture Bale

Tottenham confirmed what The Shelf told you earlier in the week today with the signing of Gareth Bale from Southampton. SCBC held out for £5 million with an extra £5 million linked to our performance. Bale is one of the most exciting young players in the country and was being chased by the chavs, scum and Man Utd. We beat them to it and signals our intent to break into the top four next season.

Bale and Kaboul due for medicals

Gareth Bale is due to have his medical tomorrow and should complete his move after that. A highly rated left back Bale will add strength and depth at the problematic left back position. With Lee showing good form we will actually have some strength and depth over on the left - the first time for years. Kaboul is also awaiting his medical and this is likely to happen on Monday. Kaboul has been called a skillful Dawson and will likely push Daws for his place alongside King. The info is from the very reliable sources on COYS. As always tho, wait for the official unveiling!

Bent in to replace Defoe

It sounds like Defoe is finally leaving after rumor after rumor during the time he has been a Spurs player. Quality people on FTL say that JD now just wants to play every week and he will never be given that at Spurs with Keane and Berbatov clearly the first choice strike partnership. Defoe claims he loves the club and does not have a bad word to say about Spurs but needs to play more often then he can now. it will be interesting to see who comes in for him and unless it is one of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester United would a move elsewhere be actually the right move for Jermaine?

Bent is now almost certainly a Spurs player unless he fails a medical. Scoring 12 goals this season for a dreadful Charlton side is good going. He has pace and can strike a ball very well and it will be interesting to see how he does at Spurs.

Kaboul almost done

French centre back Kaboul is now 99% a Spurs player and will be announced next week according to reliable sources on COYS and FTL. Also Ghaly has played his last game for Spurs and will be sold during the transfer window. No great loss there as his performance against Blackburn was up there with the rest of his games - absolute drivel and I for one will not be disaapointed to see the back of him, especially after his utter disrespect for the Spurs shirt yesterday.

New shirts unveiled.

New shirts are now officially unveiled. As revealed by The Shelf yesterday the blue and white number is the 125th anniversary kit and will be worn for only one match during the season. The other kits are the three strip line ups with the home kit being all white. The new kit will make its debut against Manchester City on Sunday.

In true Spurs style the 125th anniverasry shirt costs £54.99. Maybe they should have sold it at 1882 prices as well.

125 year celebration kit pictures

It looks like the special 125 year kit has been leaked to the Daily Mail. It harks back to the kit worn in 1885, three years afer our conception. It is a bit like what Blackburn wear and I quite like it. I don't think it is our main kit for the season but probably a third kit.

Europe here we come plus the **Goals**

Spurs brushed away Charlton to take a massive step towards finishing fifth and qualifying for the UEFA cup for the second season running via the league. To be fair Charlton battled hard and had a series of corners throughout the match but never really troubled Robinson. Spurs were generally poor throughout and had trouble keeping the ball. At 1-0 we were too willing to attack and then retreat the ball back to Robinson but we got the second late on with a good strike from Jermaine Defoe. Good to see the little man get back in the goals and he could start against Blackburn as Keane looks knackered.

I like Charlton - always a good day out for us usually but relegation couldn't be sweeter for Pardew. This is the man who went hell for leather in making sure the Spammers beat us on the last day of the season last year even though it meant mothing for the Eel Munchers and they had the FA cup final the following week. Good riddance Pardew.

Here are the goals in typical Shelf style.

    Duo win award

Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov have been jointly named players of the month after scoring 8 goals between them in the last five games. If Player of the Month has the same effect as Manager of the Month then expect neither of them to score again this season. Lets hope not!

    Chirpy is Evil

I came across this on COYS and it made me laugh:

    Bring back the real Chirpy!

    COYS!

    Fifth here we come!

And the dark horse has suddenly made his move as we approach the final few furlongs. We can see fifth place heading our way as the northern cloggers from Bolton seem to be collapsing allowing The Eel Munchers to smash them today while Reading lost to Watford somehow. At home. Portsmouth collpased to a 3-0 defeat to Everton leaving The Toffees with our only real competiton for fifth place. If we win two out of the last three Everton will need a win at Chelsea to finish fifth. Charlton will be a tough game so the way I see it now the key fixture is beating Blackburn on Thursday. Of course I want to win all three of the last games and finish fifth strongly putting to bed any of these daft Jol Out people like Park Len (where are you?) once and for all. If we do take fifth with three wins we shall finsih on 62 points only three points off our last season total having made the semi's of the league cup, and the quarter finals of the FA cup and the UEFA cup making a British record of 8 straight Euro wins as well. Considering we sold Carrick and brought in a fair few players it makes good reading. All, of course, if we do the job and finish off the last three fixtures with 9 points!

10 league games ago we sat in 10th place and now we sit 9th. However, 10 games ago we were 11 points off fifth place. Tonight we are four. With two games in hand. That is remarkable ground to make up and credit has to go to the players. They need to finsih the job starting on Monday.

    New shirt leaked? - Pictures

Apparently this is the new shirt and was on the Spurs website earlier today. It has now been removed but thanks to the various posters on FTL, Glory Glory and COYS! who spotted it. Some like it some don't but there is only so much you can do with a white shirt isn't there.

Rumors continue that the 125 year celebration shirt will be from the double winning era.

Finally, sorry because of the lack of posts recently - I aim to up the ante again as soon as I can!
