No upsets, yet.

There were no real big surprises in the FA Cup today with only Charlton and Sheffield United losing to lower sides, and United put out a team with 9 changes so I am a little bit worried about tomorrow's fixture against Cardiff. Our away form is still not inspiring and the crowd will be very hostile and passionate so I would not be surprised if we found ourselves dumped out tomorrow!

Of course, on paper, we should stuff Cardiff home or away but it is never that simple. Robbie Keane and Aaron Lennon return but I expect both of them to start on the bench. King is not fit as far as I am aware so Davenport will start with Dawson. Lee and Chimbonda will be on the flanks. In the middle will be Zokora and Huddlestone with Murphy and Malbranque. I chose Murphy as he deserves a start after his two recent sub appearences in the league. Defoe and Berbatov will be up top.

I'm worried about tomorrow too. TV are quite good at picking the games with an upset. Hope I am wrong

Yup, it's got banana skin written all over it. I've lost faith in Zokora and his ineffectiveness is putting too much pressure on Huddlestone, who for his age is being overplayed. Hopefully Jenas will be back soon to ease the load. We miss a wide player without Lennon and should have recalled Routledge. A tenner says Chopra will score, especially with our inability to keep a clean sheet. Even so, I think we'll have too much for them

Some simple questions from fans:

What does the team have planned for the following players?

Davids: Is he injured or just past it? Will he go. Who will take him?

Zeigler: Is he prem material? Will he get another shot to prove it? Why is he not playing on the left when we need a left-footed player there? Will he be shipped out?

BAE/Lee/Stalteri: Are any of these three gonna stay/go sooner or later?

Ifil: Will he ever get a shot?

Murphy: Is he shot or a good squad player?

Zokora: Now that Hud has established himself, do we need DZ?

Routledge: Will he be recalled? If so, is he cover for Lennon or can both play in the same team? If he's surplus to requirements, when will he go?

Davenport/Tony G: Will one of these two be thought of as a rock solid fill-in for either Leds or Daws? If not, will either go soon?

Just wondering, as these decisions are all obvious, yet seem to be taking forever for Jol/DC/Levy to decide!

What do I think? Glad you asked!

Davids:
He may or may not be injured, but one thing's for sure -- the Prem game is clearly too fast for his aging legs, or he's simply logged too many hard kilometres on his pitbull-like frame. He, and his big wages MUST go. Preferably while the team can still attract interest in him. But honestly, who would continue to pay him based on his lacklustre appearances Spurs shirt?

Zeigler:
Is he prem material? I think he has the potential based on his early form for the club, and his fine work in the reserves. I'm not too sure why Jol won't use him now that he's sold Reid. I think Jol should give Reto a second chance to prove he belongs while searching for a top winger (Please not Downing).

BAE/Lee/Stalteri:
For me, Lee has no left foot. Stalteri is a good guy and solid cover for Chim. BAE has potential, but we need a top quality LB (to go along with the aforementioned top winger).

Ifil:
Will he ever get a shot? Doesn't look like it. Why? Only Jol & maybe Ifil know 4 sure.

Murphy:
IMHO, he looks a step slow and should go? Can Jol convince someone to take him for a few bob?

Zokora:
Now that Hud has established himself sooner than expected, I think DZ (although a different type of player) is an expensive 3rd choice CM. Perhaps he will become more settled soon and develop into a consistent Prem performer.

Routledge:
He should be recalled as cover for Lennon. Perhaps though Jol will use him as a bargaining chip an a deal to bolster his left side?

Davenport/Tony G:
I personally think these two are fine cover and good teamates, who don't complain and maintain good attitudes. Both have the potential to be better, along with something you just cannot teach -- height!!! Simply invaluable for a CB to win headers, especially from set plays.

Agree with me?

Lee's confidence had been shot to peices.I don't remember him sending in a decent cross from the left or right byeline since his time with us. It come to the point where he don't even deserve a squad place.

Ekotto body language suggest that he can't play for a top club.Don't waste time off load the chap.

We need further surgery on the LB position.

One thing I note is that how hard the like Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea work for one another. Can you see how Rooney, Giggs run their guts out for Man U ? When I see G Silva winning the ball on the byeline, it made me realised how much the likes of Huddlestone need to step up before we can challenged the big 4. Given the same extrapolation in terms of talent, our players should run twice the distance as the top 4!

We are stuck in this unenviable position where our players thought they are too good for the likes of Portsmorth and refused to work as hard. While acknowledging that the top 4's are too good for us hence they is no incentive to challenge at the top of their game all the time.

So we are neither here nor there.

The players need a new mental paradigm.A champion metality or we will be forever stuck with the nearly men tag.

Nearly men perhaps, and yes top-4 is a step up right now, but unlike in recent years past -- where the club splashed money about on high priced flops (Rebrov? Postiga?) -- Jol et al are at least building a proper squad (as has been said ad naseaum) with a young British backbone, etc etc The spirit at the club is high. And when outside players start to see Spurs are going places (with a young and hungry team & fantastic fan support in a city like London), Spurs may finally -- as Jol likes to say -- "achieve things". waddles mullet

in my humble opinion, too many players are in the team on reputation and past performances alone. of the ones who played (not) on sunday, I would drop robbo, lee, hudds (ready for the howls of derision) tainio, murphy and chimbonda, who didnt show any fight, character or spirit for the team. we lack on field leadership and someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck. these are just honest observations / opinions. thats what I think anyway.

harry hotspur is running a vote on captaincy, with some very interesting views. how on earth can robbo influence the side from goal ??!!

Howls of derision by dropping Huddlestone ?...I won't do that. All the boy did so far is displaying a great range of passing. If every spurs fan get ahead with him, we are in real trouble. The boy is not the real deal yet.

He don't win as many challenges as he should given his size.He don't moved as quickly as Fabregas. He don't dominate as Viera should. If we depend on him to push into top 4, we are dreaming.

I'm not even sure he has the same kind of mentality as Stevie G has to become the talisman in midfield we are looking for.Yes, we must give him time. But don't count our chickens yet.

WM, you are saying much about us "going in the right direction".Potential will remain as potential without the right application.Glenn Hoddle, John Barnes, P Gascoigne and Matt Le Tissier are examples.Of the lot of young players in our team. The one with the mentality that could drive us into top 4 is Dawson. The rest has the talent but whether they have the determination to challenge at the top remains to be seen.
