Toffees make it sticky for Spurs

Firstly I would like to apolgise for the above headline but I couldn't resisit. Secondly I would like an apology from someone important for the lousy performance today from Spurs. Games against Everton, especially at home, ESPECIALLY against 10 men should see a Spurs win and we never looked like we were going to do it today.

The one good point from today's match was the perfromance from the left back, Benoit, who was excellent again today. if only we could get someone decent on the left we could have an excellent partnership on that side and Jol has confirmed we have made another large bid for Downing. I feel he would link up well with Benoit and would add more to our game. Too often we leave it all to Lennon. When he is able to run with the ball the other Spurs player stand back and watch. The movement from the other players around Lennon was awful and did not create any space for him to pass or run into. Davids is worth a mention as he put in one of his best perfromances for a while. However Lee proved too weak again and Stalteri should be recalled to that position. Although he made the odd error last seaosn he is generally consistent and has a top mentality towards games. Davenport and Dawson are not working either and Ledley's return can not come quick enough. Berbatov needs a rocket up his arse and Jenas should be dropped if he contines to play like he did today.

However, the calls for Jol's sacking on the message boards just proves to show what dumb ass fans we have going to White Hart Lane. We have not had the start we had hoped for but calling to sack the manager who took us to our highest ever finish 3 games in just makes you look stupid.

Onwards and upwards I suppose.

Went to the game today and it was awful to watch. however everton did play well and certainly deserved all three points. the main thing we're lacking at the moment is more width, having just lennon is not enough and it showed today. we need a left winger and a decent right back and im sure we'll be fine in the long term.

also, Jenas needs to start showing his £7 million value cos hes too incosistent and doesn't control the middle of the park. cahill was class and is a much better player.

What is this? The Under-16's Spurs Supporters' Branch?!

Okay, Jenas hasn't performed for a long time, if ever, and Davenport is probably not up to the Prem, but to be slagging off Berbatov after 3 games when he's infinitely classier than Mido could dream of being and calling for Jol's head after missing out on Champs Lge on the last day of last season, you lot are a disgrace. People say we have the most fickle fans in the country - I hope they don't read this ignoramuses message board.

Muppets - remember Gerry Francis, Peter Shreeves, Pleat (2nd time around), Gross etc etc. Now we at least have some world class players (Robbo, Ledley, Lennon, Keane) and others with the potential. A left-winger, CREATIVE midfield player and some decent cover at centre back and there's no reason why we can't improve on last season. You think the Scum fans are whingeing like this after losing to Shitteh?

Perspective? Most of you couldn't even spell it.

Im a bit confused by our options on the bench, the only attacking player there was Defoe?? Why have two defenders in Gardner and Stalteri, and one defensive midfielder in Zokora? You have 5 subs, they should be 1 keeper, 1 defender, two midfielders(defensive n attacking) and another striker! So surely it should be Huddlestone/Murphy/Routledge/Zeigler or Ghahley and one of Gardner or Stalteri. Jenas should be dropped, but they wont dropped him against Utd.

Today was awful. We hardly created a thing, and for a home game that just is not good enough. We lack ideas and invention. I think we miss Carricks passing aswell. I don't know why he keeps on putting Zokora on the bench. How is he going to settle in the English game if he don't get games. Something is majorly wrong with the side at the moment. There is not as much fight as there was last season. We played badly in a lot of games last season and stil came away with the three points, but this season we are playing badly and losing. That is a bad combination. I am worried that this is going to turn out to be a very poor season for us.

What is the point of having a squad if we can't use at least some of them, particularly at times of need? For example Ziegler (left sided winger), Routledge (right sided winger), Ghaly (central midfielder), Huddlestone (defensive midfielder/ centre back) & Murphy (attacking midfielder).

According to the teletext on Fri night, Berbatov had a slight knee problem and Jenas had a toe injury, but both should have been fit to play according to the club. In addition, Tainio took a knock against Sheff Utd, and was replaced. Therefore Q mark over his fitness.

Against Everton, Berbatov hardly won the ball against Yobo, because he was out jumped the whole time. But he hardly jumped at all- clearly his knee problem was still an issue!!

Tanio was clearly not fit and it showed, not his usual action man performance. When he is fit he is a very good player (but not a winger who gets down the wing and cross balls into the box). However, he cannot seem to remain fit for two or three consecutive games. We off loaded Reid precisely because of fitness issues.

Jenas - what does he really do at times? He is a hit and miss player, one on hand he can go past players and score goals, on the other hand can seem ordinary. Today, he seemed to do a lot of running without contributing to anything that might lead to a goal. He must improve his consistency!!

Davenport - Not really good enough. We need Ledley King back, or a fit Gardner (he was a sub), or to buy an experienced centre back.

The only players who produced anything decent were Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Davids and Lennon (Lennon could have done better, but was heavily marked).

Zokora - Needs premiership running speed - he is strolling around at the moment. Jol is aware of this, and explains why he was sub today and against Sheff Utd, but how much time can we give him? He was meant to be Carrick's replacement!!

So in the last week of the transfer window, we clearly need to buy a left sided winger (we have bid £10M for Downing, and according to Lyon we are in talks with them about signing Hatem Ben Arfa - 19 yrs old.) We definitely need another tall striker, we might be re-signing Mido, and are linked with Baptista (but not sure he wants to come to England. Anyway, looking at some Real Madrid games last season he did not look anything special. We also need another experienced centre back.

Where is last season's passionate cut and thrust gone? We seem to have gone from a bunch of hungry young lions to a bunch of lazy, weak primadonnas. Although we are missing a key part of last seasons core of the team Ledley, Carrick and Mido. We definately need ledley's composure and leadership back asap. Carrick is gone, but surely he cannot be the reason for the other 7 or 8 players from last seasons team going lame all of a sudden!? And one thing that Mido didn't lack was fight and passion and was a big reason we only lost 2 games last season pre-xmas. I have no doubt that Berby has quality but he needs to get a mean streak to succeed in the prem. Is Jenas really worth 7 million for a goal every 5 games and the ability to pass the ball 5 yards sideways to Lennon or Lee and little else? At least Davids worked hard as usual but with their lack of vision for the creative penetrative passes, ED and JJ look a very average midfield partnership, certainly not a champions league quality pairing who were outfought and outthought by another average prem midfield with a man short! Must admit even Tainio was also not himself today. We look so predicatable leaving Lennon and Keano with all the burden of trying to provide the creativity, but when Keano drops back so much and takes all the free kicks and corners Berby looked very isolated, which is ridiculous as we were playing against 10 men!. Sadly looks like Sheffield Utd was a false dawn and we've a tough game ahead against Manu, with the way they are playing maybe difficult to come away with anything which could leave us with 3 defeats in 4 games, already worse than last season!...hope to god I am proven wrong. However do not agree with the calls for Jol to be sacked, he still has represented a huge improvement in our fortunes, he will be very angry with today I'm sure. After Bolton, this will be another huge kick up his butt and lesson to him that we're a long way off a champions league side and may take a while for the new additions to gel with the rest of the team. We still need to find the best team selection and formation from our big squad, plus I suspect a couple of key welcome signings will be made as todays performance showed more than ever we certainly need them to match last seasons performance let alone a champions league spot.

We have gone backwards, Berbatov and Zakora are lazy C**ts. Miss Carrick big time - without him short arses like Keane and Defoe are a waste of space 'cos they won't get quality service to feet from Davids/Jenas etc. Instead need width on BOTH sides and two up front who can fight for the ball i.e. Mido and Berbatov with rockets up their arses. Then perm two of Davids, Tainio, Jenas, Zakora in the middle and we have a balanced shape at last. Davenport is better than Gardener on the ball BUT is NOT a Premiership defender while Gardener can (usually) at least keep the opposition out so is decent cover for KIng. Once King is back defence is sorted although what the f**ck did Erickson do to Robbo's confidence in 6 yard box?.

Every year during the close season i long for mid-august to arrive, full of hope for the coming season.I watch for transfer news, exited by some, but not others. Normally we under achieve, but last seasons excellent efforts left my more exited than ever at the prospect of this season. Even after this poor start i am still exited but a bit of worry is creeping in. I feel if MJ wants to persist with JJ we need five across the miidle. 352 at home 451 away. If we fail to acheive the same as last year i like everyone will be very disappointed, but i will still buy my season ticket, and i'll still get all excited again next year, i'll still love my super spurs, because.

yes we was shit today, blame individual players if u like, but its a team/squad performance. how some of you can call for jol to be sacked after 3 games is just fucking stupid.

yes im pissed off like the rest of you, but look at what jol has achieved in just 18 months.
some of you really are pathetic morons.

for whatever reason the team isnt gelling at the moment and things must improve, but give them a chance.

imo we are missing leadership. keane may be captain at the moment, but everything last season went through carrick. king is captain proper but it is the centre of midfield where we are losing games. it needs someone, whoever it is, to take the game by the scruff of the neck and drag the team forward.

as someone else said, last season we played poor and won, this season so far poor = lost.

get a grip spurs. and for any season ticket holders who want to throw their tickets away, feel free - there's 23000 on the waiting list who would be glad of 1.

Match of the Day. Ive just heard Jol say one of the poxy days in England!!

My earlier message explains what went wrong:

Nice to see the old inconsistent Spurs of old back in action again.

Jenas was the main reason why Everton looked like they were a man up when the reality was the opposite. How we got conned into paying 7m quid for him and how he keeps getting into the England squad must be one of the great mysteries of this universe.

i bet you was one of the twats who threw his ticket on the pitch when blackburn beat us a few years ago on the last game of the season - would you have done the same half way through the season??? thought not.

Everton thoroughly deserved to win today and as someone said Andy Johnson was a real pain in the arse, and although it has to be one of the porrest performances i have seen in a while, we are only 3 games in so calm your nose-bleeds

We didn't seem to have any creativity at all in midfield and Davids was very poor imo, would like to see Huddlestone get a few games above him, maybe Davids has some sort of clause in his contract to play when fit? (fit?!!!) and why leave a £8.2m signing on the bench?

The fullbacks are still a problem area, Lee doesn't seem to tackle EVER?!! and until Ledley is back we are going to be weaker in defence.

We SOO badly need a wide left midfielder and i sure hope we get one before deadline day because we just don't have the right balance.
But NOT Downing, esp for 10m+

Maybe it's time to try the 4-3-3 we were playing (with success)in pre-season?

That means we must have been doing something right over the last year or 2.

And we being the board of directors and the MANAGER.

What are you talking about, Davids was utter shit today

And reinstate Stalteri?
I can remember several of your articles begging for him to be shot, good job he wasn't playing today as i can only imagine what sort of abuse he would have got

And Benoit was good was he, what game were you watching?

Please no more Downing talk, he's vastly over rated, not worth more than 3-4 million and has about as much pace as a slug

What we need is Ledley back asap, some natural width/balance and a bit of creativity in the middle of the park. And teaching the players not to give the ball away would also help.

I thought Huddlestone was going to be groomed to take over Carricks role, who clearly we miss as someone who can actually link up play and pass the ball around well and more than 5 yards. But he has only been give a short subs appearance and not even getting a place on the bench, with Defoe the only attacking player on the bench as someone else mentioned is beyond me. Also it seems that Zokora was not bought to be Carricks replacement but is actually more similar to Davids. So if Davids is going to be the automatic choice for that position then why did we bother spending 8.2 million on Zokora now? when we could have just invested in our priority need which is CREATIVE players instead of hard working DMs of which we already have cover in Tainio. If you look at it we were even suffering with creativity last year despite being a good passing side. And then we had to sell Carrick (no choice) fair enough, then that should be the fucnction we should have replaceed as we clearly are lacking decent penetrative passers of the ball. What makes it worse is Ledley out at the moment who can make a decent pass out of defence, and used to often find Carrick. So then this is what we should have addressed instead of bringing in another battler in Zokora. Though I would like to see Zokora succeed and force davids into sound retirement. But we need more players with creative vision, as just bringing in Stewart Downing or another left winger will improve the team balance - yeah good, but it is vital we have a good core through the middle of the park who can find the wingers and strikers in the last 3rd of the field with decent balls, hence the engine/cog of the team like Carrick was. Start giving huddles a chance please MJ or find another creative midfield player, as well as a winger. Also Mido just by shere brute force and effort used to create openings for his strike partners, so was another way we would CREATE chances, although not pretty, we can see now that it was effective, again that was more creativity we lost at the front core of the team, but hopefully Berby will combine more of his his mobility and guile with some needed agression to give us an even better result. However at times like today where we wasn't getting anywhere up front would have been good to have Mido to throw on and cause a bit of havoc. BTW this is not abuse here, just trying to analyse a couple of things of a footballing nature, after all thats what blogs are for aren't they?

MJ needs to spent all the 20+ million on a centre midfilder who has vision and the open defences balls, without that we have no chance, if on top of that he wants to spent 10 million + on a winger so be it, this is the last chance for MJ this week, the next time he can spend money ou season could be over, and the no class players will come here, no matter how much money you have to spend,to all you people saying stop moaning its early in the season, its not, as I said this is he's last chance already to do something otherwise this season will be gone

Please calm down everyone. This is a long term on-going project. A left winger(or two), creative midfielder, centre back cover and right back are clearly needed and will be got when they are available and ready to join.
In the meantime, enjoy the fact that arse**** are 4th from bottom, chelski lost in the first couple of weeks and liverpool are a bit wobbly.

Looking forward to the 14th.

COME ON YOU SPURS!
