Spurs Calendars

  • Spurs Calendars

Search here for Tottenham and you will find a couple of calendars listing all the fixture dates. One also has a members on sale date informaton embedded into it. Works with iCal on the Mac and it may also work with Windows Calendar if any of you are unlucky enough to be running a Vista beta.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been on holiday.

Be on the look out for Mido back up the Seven Sisters Road in the next week. (FTL).

Suppose as Im the first blogger here, I'll start off a conversation by asking who else here thinks that Mido would be a good addition to our current strikers? Personally I think he would as he has already proven he can score goals for us and will provide perfect direct cover/competition for our new hero Berbatov. I know there will be people who say we dont need him because we got Barnard, but the thing is we cannot afford to gamble on the kid being able to convert his reserve form to the prem. We absolutely need 4 proven strikers now and then use Barnard for Carling and FA Cup games to continue his progress. If he does well in those games, he can then happily knock on the door of the team for our priority focus competitions - the Prem and the Uefa. Remember once the transfer window closes, January is a long time to bring in other adequate cover for Berbatov should he get injured or worse not score many goals!...this is why Mido would make a good foil for him at no fee if the loan rumours are true. Then again this could all be complete crap like the supposed Duff and Cole signings...lol!

Totally agree, with the above - there has beeen so much uninformed anti Mido moaning. This combined with all our schoolchildren fans wanting to suddenly unleash half the reserve squad is frankly depressing. G'ahn ya Lillywhites!

No problem with Mido back at the lane...a bit piff with the fact that we have to go into hiding whenever newcastle bid a player that we want too.Martins and Bridge.

Hope we Levy can come out with some strategu on the wage limit structure.

There is no way a club like Newcastle should be outbidding us .

Wouldn't be unhappy seeing Mido back at the lane,
Nice to see Barnard get a deserved chance at the end of last season but looking at Barney and Mido they're not too disimilar in age and Mido is already an International player with Champions league experience.
Besides mido knows the club, players and fans and wouldn't need that settling in perion that players have.
He'd be second choice but that doesn'r mean he couldn't force his way into a starting place and if there was an injury to Berbs then we'd have a ready made replacement.
Plus with the amount of games we'll be looking to play this season we'll need more players.
Keep the weight down Mido and you'll be a big success at spurs

I like theat above comment "Wouldn't be unhappy seeing Mido back at the lane..." Same here, wouldn't be unhappy. But we're not ecstatic, why? Some of us have a feeling that he won't like to be 2nd choice, heis incredibly talented but he has to be the star or he jus don't try. On the positive side he is still only 23 or something.

I'm ok with the possibility of mido as cover but I can't help wondering if he will feel the same way. If the Rep of Ireland manager thinks Terry Dixon is the best 16 year old currently in europe and good enough for the first team squad, I'd like to see him given a go at Spurs. Bernard doesn't convince me from the (admittedly) little I've seen of him and I suspect he'll make a few more minor appearances before being sold to a campionship side. Bit of a Marney if you ask me but I hope he proves me wrong and good luck to the lad.

    Come on you Spurs!

Oh and I don't believe we should up our wage structure. Those bloody divas are paid enough and our capacity size means we can't compete with the toon unless we used some of our sponsorship cash on wages which would reduce what's available for purchaces. I think that's how it works but please put me right anyone who knows better. (most of you probably)

    Just wanna touch upon a couple of comments above;

    1) Hopefully this rumour is true, as it originated from many other sources first before being mentioned here. But yes like you guys I am sceptical to due to the Duff and Carlton Cole sagas.

    2) If this rumour really is true and Mido does sign, he will be signing already with the knowledge that Berbatov is at the club and am sure MJ would have reaffirmed that he would be cover for Berbatov. Although no one should be undropable, so if the worst case scenario happens and Berbatov does not live up to his billing, then Mido will be hot on his heels as competition. Hopefully with this in mind, Berbatov will be even more motivated to score 20 plus goals this season.

    3) I am really p*ssed off with these rumours of us not bidding for players just because Newcastle are in for them. Who do they think they are?...doubt very much that this is true, as the management at Spurs have a better and brighter future to leverage for any potential targets. And if players ever would chose those desperate northern monkeys just because they pay a couple of peanuts more than us, then we dont want those particular players here at Spurs who do not buy into our bright future anyway. We only want players who see the bigger picture and truly want to be a part of something special i.e. Zokora, Berbatov, Ekotto.

It is a bright new dawn for us....the foundations are in place. But the next step is to compete with the big boys.I think all of the top 4's have players in the salary range of 80,000 and above.

I think other than this, Levy would also have the stadium capacity in mind.

We have a great chance of ousting not only Newcastle away from the pciture.I think Liverpool have problems at the top management level.

We have a very bright chairman but he still has work to do to put the club amongst the elite not only of the premiership but also europe.

    Anon - 4:51 PM, August 10, 2006,

It was interesting to see how ManUsa gave Michael carrick a 50k a week salary though, which was just 5k more than Tottenham offered. I reckon this is a sign of the times that even teams like ManU can no longer afford wages of 100k plus alla Rio Ferdinand. However it is a good thing for us that due to our current wage structure, none of our current players will try and hold the club to ransom knowing that there is a strict ceiling on the highest amount. Where as any new or current star players can tell Man Utd they want the same as Rio or a player at the Arse could demand what they gave Thierry Henry. I can see only Chelsea being able to sustain these kind of wage demands, and even they have just turned round and told Gallas to Eff Off with his 90k a week demand. They have "only" offered him 75k a week lol. Craziness!...but overall IMO very good management by Spurs, only paying players within our means due to our current limited capacity of 36,000.

I agree that the next major intelligent move by our management will be to arrange a solution to increase our capacity/build a new stadium. Current rumours quote potential rises in capacity at White Hart Lane possible between 45,000 to 60,000. If they sort out the current transport links problem then so be it. If not, move on an build or take over a new site with a 65,000 capacity. Then we will have 5,000 more than the Arse and 1,000 more than current biggest capacity of Old Trafford - 64,000. We will then be able to boast the biggest ground capacity in the prem!...how about that for a dream then?...:)

Sorry Vinny but since manure's last extension their capacity is an astonishing 76,000. Be a while for us to come even close to that I'm afraid.
55,000 to 60,000 at some point during the next 3 to 5 years would suit me fine and is fairly realistic I would hope.

    Go on the Spurs!

Thanks for the info El, we dont need that many anyway mate was just being a tad greedy.

In Reality I would be happy with an increase to anything between 50,000 and 60,000 preferably at White Hart Lane to keep the atmosphere and the history. But if due to problematic infrastructure this is not possible, I would like to see us build a nice Stadium to rival the scum down the road, and make it at least 61,000 to beat their 60,000 just to piss them off a little...lol!

just cos arsenal have a 60,000 stadium doesn't mean we need one now. it was only a few seasons ago we were still getting sub 30k for some games.
this would be disasterous if we had 60,000 seats to fill and massive payments to make.
If we get into the top 4 year after year for the next 5 years then maybe we can say we have turned the corner for sure and the need for a bigger capacity could be worthwhile but if we have a season where we finish 5th/6th/7th over the next several years then we cannot justify that expenditure.

can't quite agree with your comments. imo, its a bit cat and mouse; if the capacity stays at 36,000, revenue is limited, less money for wages, transfers etc. if the capacity is increased to say 50,000 which would be an extra, say, 6.5 mil a season (14000 x 25quid a ticket x 19 games)this will give us better spending power, bigger attraction etc. but then, we need to keep finishing top 4/5 to continue a level of support, esp as currently some 15000 already on season ticket waiting list, but this could easily dwindle should we start becoming mediocre (perish the thought!!)

personally, i think you need to speculate to accumulate. Levy has got us in a sound financial position, after nearly going skint only about 15 years ago. i think the stadium capacity is probably discussed behind the scenes reguarly, but until local traffic and transport links are sorted, not a lot will happen at the lane. simple economics really. really dont want to see spurs anywhere but the lane, unlike the woolwich nomads. opinions???

    roll on Aug 19th !!!

I agree that 50k supporters at home would help bring in extra money but that extra money would go straight out the door to pay the loan off for the massive amount of dosh it would take to reconstruct whl.
we also have to take into account that the local government would insist on us rebuilding/revamping existing tube stations that we have near by and that won't come cheap.

my worry is that if we had a bad spell (say a season finishing 10th again) or not even being able to get into the champs league where the big money hangs out, we will suffer for it in terms of not being able to invest in players like we have this season.

valid points don't you think ?
I just think we shouldn't try to run before we can walk...

we should also bear in mind that capacity would be reduced for a few seasons too until the work was complete. it would be difficult for us to lose 10,000 or more supporters every home game for a few seasons when we are trying to rebuild a team and need every penny we can get so
it would hit our transfer kitty quite hard.

Thanks Anon 9.38 for pointing out that we have about 15,000 supporters on the waiting list. This along with our current positive direction/progression we are going to be able to fill at least a 50,000 capacity. And I like everyone else would prefer this being at our beloved Lane. However only if the club have no choice due to the bad transport links not improving, then we have to consider alternatives. However if it is the Lane we are increasing, it is a worry that we would have to reduce some capacity initially to build the extra tiers/stands, but hopefully this would be limited. "Anon 12.24am" where did you get the figure of a 10,000 capacity reduction from?

man usa have just filled in their 2 corner sections giving them an extra 12000 seats without any reduced capacity hile the construction works took place.
i think you only lose capacity if you knock down a stand to rebuild it from scratch.
i think the discussions previously, was to start with putting another tier on top of the east stand. it would allow us to get rid of the sodding pillars as well !!!!
we would have to contribute towards local infrastructure links, not pay for them. i know levy has held discussions with local government about this, ending in frustration !

a better thread by the way, than all the usual championship manager transfer speculation ! cant wait for august 31st when the window closes !!

    Anon 10.04am,

Would be good if we could build without losing capacity.

I also hear you about the usual "championship manager" stuff. Im as guilty as anyone of chosing my additions to Spurs and getting rid of 1 or 2 that I dont like in the squad. However we only succeed in frustrating ourselves as transfer negotiations are more difficult than we imagine, and we never know what is truly going on behind the scenes until we see a player signed and announced standing next to big Martin. Its crazy that our love and passion for Spurs during these times make us ponder about what new signings would help us into the champions league, and nothing else matters in the world until that window closes on August 31st. It's painful, and in this respect I prefer the old all year long transfer Window, the way it is now all our anticipation is squeezed into 2 or 3 short months!...oh well, roll on the prem season and COYS!!!
