Carrick going.

It looks like Carrick is off for something around the £14 million mark, maybe a bit less. The BBC broke the story a while ago that we had turned down a bid of around £10 million but rumors look like we will be accepting United's improved offer. If true we would have made a whopping profit as we only paid £2.75 million for him 2 seasons ago. If the money is invested wisely then this could prove to a be shrewd move. The rumors are coming from a very good source over on FTL and although nothing is done yet don't be surprised if it is and of course don't be surprised if it is all bollocks! Also, football is all about improving the squad. Carrick has done well for Spurs since his arrival but every player has a price. Look at the scum. I was surprised when Anelka went for nearly £20 million quid but with hind sight they were right to do so. The same could well be said about Viera. Obvioulsy Wenger invested the cash well and if we do the same, and the signs are promising with our new faces this transfer window, then the massive profit we could well be making may actually hold the key of making Champions League next season instaed of just missing out this.

Time will tell.

They could be paying 25 millions and it would still be the worst day of this year.

I realy hope its all bollox cz i'd rather have carrick in the team than have £12 million (which is wt i've read) in the account, he fits our team like a glove on the right sized hand and is excellent for us, it will be hard to replace him like roy keane has been hard to replace at united and viera and the scum, we need to hang on to him, martin jol isn't thick, far from it, so hopefully he will not sell any of our 1st team players like carrick, defoe, king etc.... dnt even want kelly to go, i think he could be the next stephen carr!

keep telling yourself that you muppet. all we've heard all year is "carrick is class", "we can't lose our best players" etc. now its gonna happen and you're making out its a good thing?! typical spurs that is. obviously a selling club and it doesn't send out a good message to the rest of the squad does it?

If he really wants to leave, theres nothing we can do.

If he does, i have full trust in DC,DL,BMG in finding a decent replacement. But i think i speak for all spurs fans when i say he was the backbone of our midfield throughout last season.

But then again, we have huddlestone, he could indeed be the future of our midfield. But also, i am hoping its all bollox, as many different stories and been released.

As we are a club taking big strides forward, we cant afford to take massive ones backwards. carrick could be key.

it would be a big mistake to sell him, as we need to keep the team together and not break it!!! Mr Jol add quality players not sell them.

But having said that if the mancs offer 20 million or very close to that sum then we would stand to make a profit. but are there any British midfielders around that are beter the Carrick? if so would they be willing to come to Spurs? COME ON YOU SPURS!!! BY YOGZ

I hope we don't sell him. Even £14mil is not enough for him in my opinion. And what is the point of having lots of money if it means the team wont be as good, because I don't think we would be able to get as good a replacement for him in the near distant future. I'd be gutted if he goes.

If there was better player or even one as good that you could get for £12,000,000 don't you think Man Utd would be buying them! Also transfers cost money what with players cuts, agents etc We probably wouldn't get it all up front and then have to spend more cash on signing onn fees, agents etc for the replacement all in all we'd probably end up with a player worth 6-8 Millon instead of Carrick who isn't as good! Would be a very bad move indeed!

The facts are quite frankly - Man United are in trasition. This would be a great opportunity for th boy - I don't think we can replace him, but how long can Spurs continue to play with a holding midfielder and hope to make the champions league (let alone do well in it. We have always played offensive football and require the services of a Lampard DMC/MC/AMC all in one. Carrick is a poor finisher and lacks pace. Thankfully he was not as clumsy with his tackling around our box this season. King is the Key to the squad - everybody remember that!

I'd be gutted if he left. But if like some of the reports i have read and we get £20mill for him then it could be a good deal. Zakora has been tipped to be one of the stars of the world cup. Bring him in for 7mill. Bring on huddlestone who i believe will be far better then carrick if he fulfills his potential. We would then have some money to go out and buy a player like duff or babel (he is class). Its not all doom and gloom. If he don't want to sign a new deal get the money for him now.

Before we even think about accepting this we need to be asking for part exchange on a player like Kieran Richarson, who could sovle a problem for us on the left hand side of midfield, and matches the ideal spurs player profile in that he's good young and English. I don't rate Wes Brown to be honest, but he might be a useful cover/competition player at CB? Or how about the kid Rossi?

If we're going to even think about losing a player like Carrick we need to get someone else in as part of the deal (plus a hefty wad of cash to go hunt Zokora, Chimbonda et al). Personally I'd welcome Richardson. Ask not what we can do for ManUre, ask what those red bastards can offer us.

If in two years Carrick walks will he be class then or another Campbell? The fact is we need to cash in on him now and make a good profit rather than end up with nothing.

Carrick is class and has had a good season with his best performance away at the Scum.

However, Carrick is no Gerrard or Lampard and we do need a player who can offer something else if we are really going to challenge.

See, Carrick just does not score enough goals and it's not like he has not have the chances.

Finally, Carrick might have made it clear he wants to leave and if this is the case then bye bye and thanks for the help

My thoughts on Carrick from the first time I seen him at WHL reads: he's over-rated! Has blossomed in the past season, however still not quite good enough. To say the truth, we can do with Teemu Tainio and Jenas in the middle. That partnership will be as good a pairing as Carrick and Jenas, if not better. Of course, Jenas must improve more. We should take our time to find a Lampard or Gerrard. Someone who can really lift the team up. Carrick has done well defensively, however he does not bring us to another level. For £14 million, it is worth it. Would be gutted if they paid less, those manure.

I'm amazed at some of the comments. Yes Carrick's not perfect, but if Man U are willing to pay £14m for him they must think he's the business. And he is. All that's good flows through him. He's the key to ball retention. Do you want to go back to the wilderness years of having Sfteefen Freund or Tim Sherwood as our sitting player? As for Huddlestone he's shown little of his potential so far. He's no more the next Carrick than Pekhart is the next Rooney.
The only reason we should sell Carrick is if he asks to leave or Man U offer silly money (£25m+).

Now what i'd do is tip Utd bollox and say Carrick is not for sale at any price! if we say "we want this much" then theyre going to offer more money! saying "not for sale at any price stops every1 from bidding as theres no point (Except Chelsea i suppose!) but if the worst happens and Micky C does go, we should scrap the holding midfielder role and go for duff and Torres. We've got Huddlestone to come into the team and the lads already shown how good he's going to be! just think; Robbo, Chimbonda, Daws, Ledders, that new little french cunt, duff, hudd, JJ, Lennon, Berbatov/Keane, Torres/Defoe... its all achievable as we would have the cash to fund that team confortably :D any1 remember Hossam Ghaly? heard he was good...

We could take the cash for carrick and go dutch. maybe wesley sneijder? fuck the holdin midfield role, if weve got some1 of sneijder's ability were made! that boy is the tits and i know 4 a fact he'd soon be a good at the lane. id still rather keep carrick but if he dont wanna stay, whats the point in keeping him? weve got to face it that when a massive club like united comes knocking, heads are turned very easily. its different for us lot as were yid through and through and wuold never leave spurs for a bigger club (i know i wouldnt anyway) but the lads a geordie. he has no emotional ties to the club. i think we could do a lot worse than selling carrick and trying something different in midfield. this zokora lad supposed 2 be good aint he?

but thing is, we really dont need to sell. And the reason he wants to leave apparently is because we refuse to match his £40,000 a week wages. Well, WE SHOULD! He is definantly worth it and we will be studffed if we dont get a suitable replacement. And why wont we give him it? Its not like we are short of money and King is on £50,000 a week isnt he?
As someone said, if we sell our best players, that doesnt really signal our ambition does it and the players wont be enthusiastic to play. It would be a shame if he goes

I have been saying for the last two months that carrick is going to leave at the end of the season.The club have signed up king,dawson,robinson,keane and lennon on long term deals.but carrick who's on £15000 per week has refused our best offer and will NOT come to the table and negotiate. I feel that carrick was our best player last season,and will be sad to see him go but if he see's his future else were then we need to get has much money as we can and leave it to BMJ to find a quality replacement.

The Team Must Constantly Evolve. I could live without Carrick in our Midfield - with the replacement being a similar player, but with pace, flair and an eye for goal. The reason Carrick played well against Arsenal is simply this: He was spraying his passes from deep in our own half - surely nobody should man mark you from there! Whatever happens during this window - I pray that Jol will not allow a player to leave, without a replacement - anyone remember when Kanoute left?!

If carrick were to leave it would be a disaster, all our attacks and, in fact, our whole game flows through him, if we lose him u can forget CL or a good performance in europe next year, if we were to sell him it would be for 20 mil min, otherwise we shouldn't even consider it. Clubs never get anywhere by selling their best players, end of story!

The fact that Carrick has never shined as bright when playing for England shows that he's very good but just short of world class (unless he proves me wrong over the next couple of weeks). Tom Huddlestone has impressed at under 21 level and looks to me like having the kind of 'heavyweight' potential that Carrick has always lacked. According to Peter Taylor he had the best eye for a pass for someone his age that he'd ever seen. We are not a 'selling' club and don't need the money so if Carrick is sold it will be for the right reason ie: Carrick would rather play for another club (good riddance) or Jol has plans and Carrick isn't a necessity. We payed less than 3 mil for him and we're clearly in the process of begining to attract higher quality players not to mention the younger players we've already got. We no longer have mugs running this club so whatever they decide is fine by me.

Come on you England!

Carrick is vital to us. He is class. His passing would be sorely missed. I agree Huddlestone has potential and I would like him to get some chances in the side, but he aint ready for that sort of responcibility in the center of midfield. If we lose Carrick, then in my opinion, we will not be as good as last season. Lets sell Stalteri to Man Utd instead!

pretty simple lads , if he wants to go best of luck to him. Any player not 100% commited to the cause has to be shipped out as soon as possible. I personally hope its not true as he is a very good player but I trust our management team especially BMJ to do whats right should it happen. We have alot of great players in midfield and Huddlestone is a star of the future so its not the end of the world. We have to many good players these days to let one player leaving bother them like years gone by and we also have a lot of money to invest in more so if he wants to go , see you later.

Carrick is a class player and it would be sad to see him go and although we are not a selling club every player has his price. The Club and Carrick were to sit down after the WC to discuss a new contract which is why Man Utd have made the offer now to turn his head. It would not be a disaster if he left as I, like many on here, feel that Huddlestone is an excellent holding midfielder for the times that we play that formation (please remember that next season we will be playing 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 for the different styles we will come up against in Europe and we will need a full array of different midfield styles).

The Club does not want to sell him and have no financial reason to sell him but if he will not agree to a new contract then let him go and let us make the most out of him - the Club will not allow another Campbell debacle and nor should they. Carrick is the only star player that has not signed an increaed contract (mainly because he has not been offered one yet!!!) so we are far from doom and gloom. Saying that I still think he will go - not just for money but for the chance to play for a Club that has 72,000 at every home match and of course the CL.

Let us trust in the Management and the Board - they know we are close to being a real top team again and if one part of that team wants to move on then he will be replaced with at least equal quality. Levy will back any move for the right player and I personally think that, apart from new full backs (one down one to go), new striker (still one more to come in), left winger (my money is on Duff), we are all in for a big surprise when the Club unveils a really big name - just a hunch and a big signal to the football world that we are indeed back amongst the elite.

Finally did anybody else feel that the timing of the offer for Carrick was Fergie aiming a kick at Sven? 24 hours before England start their WC campaign - nice time to unsettle a squad member.

Even though Michael Carrick is my personal favourite spurs player, if man utd were to come back in with a offer of (£15m + Kieron Richardson) i'd snap their hand off without a second thought. our main target over the last 2 years has been to get a quality left sided midfielder and also to recruit young english talent. carrick is a amazing player who has fitted in perfectly to the spurs squad but as good as he is, if he doesn't learn to score he'll never be world class. we have so many quality midfielders dying to get a first team chance and with carrick gone (for a fee) they'll get their chance to shine + a replacement of better scoring abilty could be drafted in or even zokora who is also a defensive tactition for the midfield.
OUT!!!
Carrick = £15m + exchange - man utd
Reid = £1-2m - championship
Defoe = £15m - liverpool
Davids = exchange - Ajax
IN!!!
Richardson - exchange
Zokora - £7m
Trabelsi - £2m + exchange

(and one big name signing to make big impact and cause competition for places) or mayb
bellamy < thinks he's a big name

oh ye sorry forgot bout the trabelsi free transfer but i still believe davids will be ajax bound as part of a exchange perhaps for bigger transfers of sneijder or heitinga or even babel if the richardson thing doesn't work out. i don't like bellamy's attitude either but i can't deny he's a class player who should be at a bigger team than blackburn

Yeah your right, bellamy coming to the lane would be a dream come true. He truelly is a world class striker who has everything, pace, skill, finishing, dribbling. Why would he come to us???

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i dont think bellamy is world class by any stretch of the imagination but the fact blackburn attract players like emile heskey and not players such as berbatov means spurs are currently and will be for a long time to come a bigger profile teamt he rovers rembmer they were only in the div 1 a few years back losing 5-1 to barnsley (which match i was mascot for and remember well) i think bellamy would be a simular striker to defoe he jus had a edge that defoe hasn't got. the only reason bellamy ever went to rovers was because of mark hughes and that celtic never worked out

12:41 PM, June 10, 2006

Yeah but do you think hed ever consider us>?? Whether you like it or not we are similar sized club to them. i.e. Once massive not so big anymore. We are both in the sam boat. And if it was only hugues factor then your telling me if hugues was managing a team like barnsley hed go there??? I think blackburn are a lot bigger than you give credit for

anon of 11.57 - You want to take on the EPL, domestic cups and UEFA Cup with those 4 strikers????

Barnard is not up to standard - Dixon is 2 years away at least (if he continues to develop as well as he has - as is Pekhart).

If we return to the mentality of "making do" then we will end where we deserve i.e. mid to lower end of the table. Keane, Defoe and Berbatov are proven quality - we need another proven striker - and that is first team proven and not reserves.

Carrick is unlikely to sign another contract until next year, even then he will only sign if we are in CL. I say if he wants to go cash in on him now, cos in a year we'll get a lot less with only a year left on his contract. Carrick has been good for us, all season but he hasn't been great. Take the money and go get Zakora who is much better than carrick.

I wouldn't sell for any less than £16mn or so. But if he wants to go, it weakens our position. Looks like Zokora may be good and I reckon Huddlestone is very similar to Carrick and could grow in the same way he has, but the thing is, Spurs shouldn't buy young players to make profits or to improve them, we should buy them in order to at some point make our team better.
