See ya.

Mido, Bunje and Naybet are all leaving the club over the summer as and when their contracts finally expire. Naybet joined two years ago and played a good few games for us scoring against the scum in the process. I will always rememebr his debut in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool. He had a great game and it was the first time since Mabbutt played that I saw someone actually marshall a defence. Bunje was the Serbian Trevor Brooking when he arrived but never quite lived up to all the hype. A solid servent of the club he was never really good enough. Lastly Mido will not be bought by the club. Although he did his job well he did make our play often one dimensional - i.e. hoof it up from the back and hope for a flick on. This season he looked fit and sharp but then went to the African Nations cup and was never quite the same since. Everyone from The Shelf would like to wisht hem well for the future and I bet I'm not the only one who is a bit annoyed by the official site who managed to write less than a quarter that I have on three first team players leaving.

In other news Carlton Cole's signing is going to be announced tonight or tomorrow. This is from a reliable source on FTL.

I think you will find it was Milenko Acimovic that was dubbed the Serbian Trevor Brooking actually.

Yes you're right about the official site mate, these players deserve more written about them. Good luck to them all. The Carlton Cole saga...well tomorrow was last week I thought but we'll wait and see.

Bunjy was the Balkan Beckenbauer wasn't he? Not the Serbian Trevor Brooking! Agree that Naybet was quality and very much needed when he arrived, Bunjy never cut it but was apparently good with the kids behind the scenes (slightly idealistic, I know) as for Mido... I hoped we kept him, he is good. He cannot be blamed for our 1 dimensional play, they're playing to Mr Jol's instructions. But clearly they had fallen out. Besides, Berbatov's gonna be better!! Nice one for bigging up some good servants for the club.

rather have Mido than Cole anytime..useless,lazy,no good for nothing, injury prone young so called potential..very very disappointed with Jol..just when we have to make that big jump into top tier of the PL we are signing Cole..martin joke.

No wonder spurs have such great support, with fans like you around. The fact they got a 1/3 of your script on the official website says it all. How was bunjy a solid servant. He was paid 1st team wages when as you state he didnt live up to the hype, and more to the point wasnt good enough to play in the 1st team.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to start insulting Martin Jol because of a rumour that may not even come true is a bit stupid. Even if he does sign then I have faith in MJ to make him come good...sod it, he would only be 4th choice anyway.

Mido was fat & lazy, only knuckled down for half a season (cos he was playing for a contract)

Imagine what he would have been like if he had the relaxation of a 4 yr contract.

Trouble maker, you only have to look at his tantrums at the ANC.

Key factor was though (i'm sure) was the asking price Roma were requesting (after allegedly agreeing a fee when he initially came)

And probably his moron agent mouthing off about Spurs weren't 'favourites' and all that to try and bump up his wages (& agents cut!)

Bring on Kuyt!!

a gooner in disguise? a season ticket holder of 20 years at the lane more like it..i have seen so many daft signings over the years and Cole is definitely another one..never confident about the kid and not one good report from either chelsea, wolves, villa or charlton...4 teams and not one decent game..says it all.

Can someone tell this (aaargh let me stay polite) that we have just signed Berbatov to go alongside Defoe and Keane. We are not at a stage where we can have 4 top strikers all happily competing for places. If we were in the Champions League then fine but it's easy to say "Yeah yeah we should be signing RVN, Kuyt etc." but not easy to actually do it. Face facts, RVN would not sign for us when he can get CL football. We will not be signing Kuyt because we have Berbatov.

unless you have a regular 20+ a season goal scorer you wont make the CL next season either.Only top notch players will get you there, berbatov wont start scoring from the game one and will need at least 3 months to adjust the pace and style of the PL..cole is not good enough,a perfect championship player and nothing more.

Are you all insane? Has the last 10 years taught you nothing! How the hell on earth can we consider buying Carlton Cole. Finally I thought we had sorted out our historic problem of buying average shit. We need to push on. Why do they think Cole is the answer. Look at his performances on loan. Average, Average and Average. If the boy can't beat players and score goals for fun now, having Martin Jol on the touchline is not suddenly going to make him be able to dribble a football etc ... He just doesn't have it. Why won't we ever learn!

Well i suppose YOU should buy the players, pick the formation, choose the starting line-up and maybe even play yourself then seeing as you are such an expert.

....TWAT...

He's been the best thing to happen since Billy Nick & i have total faith in him retuning us to the glory days.

But i suppose you would rather see us with a manager like Ossie Ardiles, George Graham, Jack Santini or Christian Gross?

i slagg off Martin jol as i like..it was all his fault in most of the games to let last minute goals in wasnt it? it took him 5 last minute goals and 7 points loss to realise that he sometimes has to sacrifice a stariker and inforce the midfield to hold onto the lead..he didnt do that til the blackburn and Bolton games..if only he thought of that against west ham,sunderland,fulham..

We have had the best season in about 20 years, qualify for Europe for only the second time since the start of the premiership narrowly missing out on CL football, have a great squad of players including many young english talent, with whom are involved in the england squad and we are also financially sound?!!

The future is very bright indeed.

We're moaning for exactly that reason. Why waste a great season with a purchase like Carlton Cole. It smacks of not wanting to push on. Why are all you people so blind. Some players just aren't that extra special. Cole is not a special player. Why even have him as a squad member. We must be able to attract higher quality than scummy british wide boy crap like Cole. It is so annoying when Spurs do this. I really thought things were different now. Arrgh, so frustrating.

I think Cole would only be there to make up the striker numbers. In my eyes he's better than Rasiak. I have a hunch he may impress the few games he will play - if not, what the hell is 2 mil in todays football? Having 3 top strikers and a not so top striker aint to bad. It's the full backs i'm more concerned with, along with a left winger and a creative touch in the centre. Roll on next season when we can show Rosicky that he should have joined us instead of the worthless scum.

I would rather have Cole anyday, i've seen him a lot for the England under twenty-ones and he gives it his all, always fighting to stay in the team.

I found Mido to be lazy, came back from the African Nations looking like a pub darts player. Don't think jol found him to be professional (look what he did against his manager playing for Egypt), fair enough he was OK, but 5m for him? Don't think so!!!
I think a few will be presently suprised by Cole, have spoken to Villa fans, they liked him, Chelsea just wouldn't sell him to them at the time!

Martin Jol knows what he is doing ??

OK here i give you 2 names he signed and you tell me the answer..

Stalteri,Rasiak to start with..one gave away too many last minute goals and even unable to kick the ball out when matters the other couldnt even score in a whore house..If we had a better fb than stalteri and a better striker than rasiak we would have been in the CL draw by now..thats how a couple of dross signings by jol matters.

4:53 AM, May 27, 2006

I think we should look at it this way - Mido is supposedly going to cost Spurs 5m pounds (or more), and from a financial point of view he's not going to be good value if he's just a cover for Berbatov. So getting Cole would be a cheaper alternative (much as we did with Rasiak), although it remains to be seen whether he can live up to the 'great potential' hype. Mido has done a good job, but he has not proved himself when it comes to shooting, so hopefully Cole (if he comes) can fill up that gap. As for Bunje, I never thought he was top draw anyway, so it's good that he's off; Naybet has been great, but age is a factor. I do hope we sell Defoe and get Kuyt and Denilson. Then our attack will be brilliant. We don't need any central defenders - Davenport can provide excellent cover.

Neither lennon nor dawson are jol signings and as a matter of fact Reid and Routledge are..Dawson and Lennon were at the time actually signed by Arnesens recommendation.Jol was insistant on Routledge and Reid and got them both..Jol is a poor judge of players thats why we keep a director of football in this club..Jol didnt even want Jenas and he was a levy signing.

6:25 AM, May 27, 2006

All we need is 3/4 players..Chimbonda is a must, athletic, good on the ball and good in the air, doesnt get injured and pcey worth the £5 mil. add denilson on the left wing, tricky very very quick a little too selfish at times but needs a good, fresh challenge at a big league and spurs will be a great set up for him to relaunch his career and become a great again,Ruud van Nistelrooy a proven 25+ a season goal scorer thrives on crosses, drops deep and never stops working alongside denilson and lennon he will be lethal,a replacement for Ant Gardner is also a MUST...we need a quality back up for King and Dawson...Chimbonda,RVN,Denilson and a decent centre half should see us progressing into top 4 next season and leaving arsescum behind.

can't believe we are not chasing a better manager,Jol is ok but to show our ambition we should try to get Mourinho, and mabye sign the Brazilian national team first 11 to warm our bench,,then the premiership would quake in its boots, and while we are at it we should move to old trafford as our stadium "shows no ambition"...sigh..i have been a season ticket holder for 86 years and have never missed a game,,not even a freindly, home or away so my opinion has to be the right one........

I think Charlton Cole is a useful addition if not a exciting one. Barnard, for all his promise is a rookie in the league and you can't argue Cole has played with some of the best players in the world and had scored goals at this level.

I think that settled our strikers quartet; the shop is closed for next season though I love to see Bellamy signed.I can't see that happening now unless Defoe leaves.I think Bellamy has the right mentality while Defoe tends to drift away when going gets tough.

But I have a feeling some of our biggest signings would be AFTER the WC.Management would reserve the biggest funds to the left sided midfielder we all crave;assuming Lennon would not be asked to play there.

I would agree with the poster that alluded to too many people living in fantasy world with computer football games and the distinct lack of looking at the WHOLE picture.

First of all we need 4 strikers for next season, and for each season after that, and even if we were in the CL we would never be able to keep the likes of RVN, Kuyt or Torres happy as a squad player.

We have 3 world class strikers in Keane, Defoe and Berbatov - all proven goalscorers and all Internationals. It would have been nice to have kept a fit and focussed Mido but that all fell apart when he, and his agent, showed their true colurs and tried to stitch the Club up with their demands - it was not Roma that spoilt the deal as there was a signed agreement for 5 million Euros in place. His injury problems and his attitude also came to light. The bottom line is that Mido is gone so we move on - thank you very much for your efforts and goodbye.

We need somebody like Charlton Cole to cover for Berbatov for next season but you all seem to forget that we have Peckhart and Dixon chomping at the bit. Peckhart is 6 foot 2, strong, fast, scores for fun and described as the new Rooney - he joins us in July and he will be groomed to be the 4th striker as will Dixon. Dixon also has rave reviews but Peckhart looks the real deal big time. If these guys live up to their potential then they will be blooded into the team at the end of next season and if you think Lennon was a find then watch Peckhart go - he could be our best ever find. I know less about Dixon but again he has great reviews. Martin Jol is a great believer in youth and if you are good enough then you are old enough.

Barnard is not up to the standard as yet and although I like the guy he might not ever be good enough for a top 4 team and as we are in the position of moving up to the next level we do not have the luxury of time.

Cole is a stop-gap squad player for next season and if he only costs £2 million I am sure we can recoup that when he is surplus to requirements - who else can fit the bill for one season? Dont forget we got our money back on Rasiak who looked good when at Derby - he was crap for us but again he has done well for the Saints and he is an International - shit happens but we quickly realised it and got our money back.

There is AMPLE money available and the will and desire to get to the top is there for all to see, especially with Daniel Levy, so let's stop the crap about our wanting to be just an average Club - that is pure nonsense. Try reading the official statements from the Club and try reading the Annual Reports.

I.ve been a Spurs fan since 1960 - seen the good and the "bad" we've had. Spent enough money to build several houses to watch the Lillywhites two points if I may - 1. MJ is the best manager since KB - stop the moaning, we've just had the most exciting ride for 20 odd years - support the team' the manager and the backroom staff and lets look forward to European
football at the Lane for the first time in years.
2. Even great managers sometimes get it wrong, they dont live up to the "billing" - my view as 4th Striker Cole will be a good buy - my son -in law is a Villa fan and would take your arm off to have him - we need any year or even two to reach CL standard - then we can expect to sign the top, top players we all dream of.

All you so called fans that slag off MJ, for wanting to Carlton Cole, need your wannabe championship manager heads tested....yes MJ did bring some borderline talent stalteri, rasiak, but the latter was a panic if you remember on the deadline day, as mido was of to eygpt. I never really rated cole, but have never really seen him play, and Im happy to trust MJ and our excellent director of football, who has found so many talented players. SO LETS ALL GET BEHIND THE THFC STAFF AND GIVE OUR 100% SUPPORT, and remember this is real life not a pc game.

I have been a season ticket holder for 30 years so I have seen the poor and the bad.

Think Jol is ok but over rated.

Some lousy signings and a few good uns .

Lennon the best of the lot
Dawson good but not tested at the highest level.... Goes to sleep too often like the moment Belarus got the winner.

STALTERI and lee p are poor

mido was fat lazy and over rated>

davids too slow too old
Defoe totally destroyed by poor management.
Jenas only plays well against a few kinds of oppostion.

Carrick too eratic. Was piss poor against Belarus
Robinson good but prone to errors.
King good against 6 foot strikers but poor against tricky forwards... Sunderland WBA Arsenal at home ??

Lets get real.

We are miles behind the top 3 and Arsenal in a poor season for them with so many injuries will get better.

We need top players to break the monopoly.

No Kuyt is not good enough.#

Berbatov scored only against poor sides and I bet he wont get more than 10 next seasson.

Cole is poor ... saw him a few times last season and he is not the answer.

Chimbonda is good but will cost 5 mill.

Curtis is good but think arsenal is more for him cos he likes the champs league attraction.

So sorry to be a downer but i think without serious class we will struggle to be top 6 next year cos Uefa cup will stretch our squad.

Well it is not a rocket science to see clearly that it was Mido and his agents greed ruined his deal at Spurs but he scored and tormented the opposition with his physical presence and he is bloody good in the air..Cole is admittedly a lot quicker than Mido but doesnt have the same influence of Mido..
I still am not convinced about Cole and unless he scores the same amount of goals that Mido did last season i still wont be happy.

On the other hand i believe we have a replacement for stalteri lined up in chimbonda which i am happy about also i still would like to see another quality centre half possibly Woodgate on a pay as you play deal that way at least he wont suffer injuries as he will be resting enough.denilson is always a good shout for the left wing.

Now we have a gooner definitely in the crowd here..

Dawson not tested against top opposition? what other top opposition than the likes of Rooney,Henry,Drogba etc. would you like to test him? errm of course next season he will be tested by Shevchenko as well..do they get any better than that?

King never struggles against smaller tricky players his weakness is clear and obviously in the air which dawson covers up a lot..King is unbeatable on the deck so stop talking cack.

Jenas covers a lot of ground and never stops running,if you cant judge a midfielder with his work rate how else can you do that?/
carrick did not have more than 3 average games in the whole of the last season which puts him there with the best to be honest..no arguments there so belarus game is never a gauge..he is better than any arsenal midfielder wenger would bend over to white hart lane crowd to have him tomorrow..so get lost.

Berbatov will need time to settle in but he played in germany for 6 seasons so it wont take too long before he gets used to it..and he will bang them in against anyone ,i have no worries about him at all..better than that lanky thing wenger bought last january anytime.

we might be behind chelsea but bit of experience would have seen us chasing the second spot last season and arsenal should have been well behind us..so go and get stuffed when suggesting we are years behind arsenal..all the sky tv backing they have got and we have been treated unfairly and still managed the fifth..

STILL NOT HAPPY ABOUT COLE BUT LETS WAIT AND SEE I SUPPOSE.

NEXT SEASON WHEN ARSENAL STARTS THEIR SEASON AT THE BEGINING OF JULY FOR THE CL QUALIFIERS WITH ALL THEIR PLAYERS COMING BACK FROM WORLD CUP WITH HANGOVER AND START GETTING A FEW INJURIES,I AM SURE YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH EGG ON YOUR PIKEY FACES.

Salteri gets stick but he,s helped us to the best position in the PL ever despite making mistakes would you rather have Kelly and not made UEFA? Dawson and Reid were both signed by Arnesen. Denilson and Downing would be shit buys my suggestions would be Bridge (move Lee to right back), Kuyt in for Defoe and buy a left sided midfield player struggling to think of one that would be available to be honest, why not give Zieglar a crack|?

call me old fashioned, but i would love to see a spurs starting 11 numbered 1 - 11 !!
at the moment we have no number 2, 4, 9 or 11.

if we sign a right back, chimbonda or whoever, give him the 2 shirt. kelly has 3, well ok.
lennon should have the 7 shirt, i guess berbatov will be 9. 11 - the new left midfield whoever that is ?
if davids goes, dawson and king can be 4 and 5.

championship manager stuff i know, but just a bit of light hearted fun !!

Think that the main deciding factor of whether we make progress to champions league this season will not be Carlton Cole as he will only be 4th striker so unlikely to feature too much in our important games (lets be honest Rasiak didn't), and especially as neither of our first 3 strikers Berbatov, Keane or Defoe will be going to the ANC for 1 month either.

What Im saying is progress will depend on whether the latter 3 strikers perform enough in the prem and Uefa (forget the FA and Carling cups, Cole and Barney will take care of those, prem has got to be our priority).Think the key thing to be seen is whether Berbatov adapts quickly enough/at all and if Defoe regains his scoring form. Now on paper they both are capable, in practice only time will tell if they are.

5:36 PM, May 27, 2006

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree that Carlton Cole dont look like setting the world alight, but he's a better 4th striker than Rasiak (was 4th choice for the prem champs Chelsk right?). I dont think that a world class striker like Kuyt, RVN, or even Gudjonsen is gonna be happy as our 4th striker. And we all know that it is more likely that if one of these did come in, Defoe would be pushed out to 4th choice and would leave by January, leaving us to bring in someone like Cole anyway!

So the bigger argument, is Defoe's heart in playing for THFC enough to end his barren spell? (I suspect he is good enough) or should we sell him for decent money now to bring in Kuyt, RVN or Gudjonsen as one of our first 3 strikers???...a lot depends on whether they would want to join us in the first place. Also might be a gamble replacing 2/3rds of our established strikeforce by replacing Mido AND Defoe!...it's not an easy choice for a manager, I can see Jol scratching his bald head now...lol!

Charlton desparately tried to sign Cole but were told they werent selling as he was too good. At Villa he was hit by injury and then told Chelsea wanted him back. If he was that bad they wouldve said bye bye a long time ago and sold him off. In this time hes been surrounded and learning his trade with top players like Crespo, Drogba, Zola. He'll make a good understudy to Berbatov and add a different option up front. He's 23 and 2 mil is nothing in terms of a tranfer fee, wont even dent the bank. If anyone can get the potential out of him its Jol. Don't forget behind all this we've got Barnard coming through aswell. Mido was good for a spell but as soon as a permanent contract looked in the bag he eased off the gas. Too much of a gamble to sign him for that amount based on the whole of his loan period. An extended loan til Jan wouldve been better.

Like I said lads, no big deal about Cole being 4th striker.

But elsewhere in the world today...Shevcenko of Milan and Kalou of Feyenoord joining the russians at the bridge...how do they do it?!!!

Plus our target Kallstrom of Rennes has joined Lyon because they are in the champs league.

Which goes to prove a point that it is very difficult to attract world class players without champs league.

I say Jol should have one last go at signing Kuyt while he is still a free agent using his Dutch connection like abramovich used his Russian link for Sheva.

If Kuyt does not want to come, keep Defoe as we would be in crap if Defoe leaves and we are stuck with Cole as our 3rd striker!

Anon 9.18pm, Cole is not back up for Berbatov really, cos if Berbatov was to get injured , the next first choice pairing would surely be Keane and Defoe like at the end of this season when they started to look good together, when Mido was unfit. If Berbatov would ever be out of action, Cole would sit on the bench to give us an extra physical option if needed late in a game. He would probably start only in carling and fa cup games to get some shooting practice, by the sounds of his record, he might need it...lol!

10.40 .. carrick is'nt meant to be an attacking midfielder, therefore he is'nt told to get as many goals as other AM would do. he is the holding midfielder, but as he as shown he does have the talent to go foward, gooners should know..for his mazy villa style run against the goons defence. if carrick leaves our midfield would fall apart.

Those who want to sell carrick must be mad.He is one of two names that would be definitely on Jol team sheet. The other is Robinson.
If Man U wants him, he must be doing something right.Fergie has seen the likes of Roy Keane to rate Carrick so highly.

Roy Keane took about 4~5 seasons before he reached full maturity at Man U.Carrick has already took on the mettle of midfield enforcer 2 years at WHL.We will regret the day we let him go.

Zokora is considered so as to release Carrick from the holding role.Just read somewhere that Lippi the italy coach rate Zikoro so highly that he name him as one of two darkhouses who can make a impact at this WC.

Let win the transfer gamemanship over the gooners by recruiting Zikoro and Curtis Davies!

Sell Carrick???...10.40am are you havin a laugh?

Sorry mate dont agree, you can not sell a player on speculation that he will turn bad next year because there will be no worldcup. And remember with the spammers he was playing in a relegation quality side.

The one thing I will say, I dont agree with MJ making him "undroppable" as we have a young lad called Huddlestone, who is knocking the door and Carrick should keep on top of his game with fear of losing his place if has a bad game...thats what competition and squads are for...we should try and blood Huddlestone into the first team a little more this year.

5:56 PM, May 28, 2006

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah would be good if we could ring in just 1 quality addition to replace Davids. Kallstrom the swede from Rennes is apparently going to Lyon for Champs league.

Zokora would be good, but seems to be a lot of money asked and other big sides are interested. If he has a good worldcup he might get snapped up by a champs league team, so we should try and get him before.

The scum can offer Curt Davies champs league, so lets see on that one, however he doesn't speak french so might have trouble in the dressing room on that one...lol!

On Peckhart and Dixon, they are youngsters that should be blooded slowly, wont be ready that soon, might take a season or 2, right now we need players who are seasoned and ready for the fight for a top 4 place. So Carlton Cole is the stop gap till then I suppose, lets hope he surprises us and turns out better than just a Rasiak replacement.

6:08 PM, May 28, 2006

Anonymous Anonymous said...

5.56pm anon, first name on the teamsheet doesn't mean undroppable.

Huddlestone would be ask to play more this season if we have a good cup run. This goes for the like of Barney.

We miss the CL by 2 points ! It is imperative to play your best team whenever possible especially in the league. Some of us are still haunted by the games such as away to West Brom, where we can't call on Mido.

7:40 AM, May 29, 2006

I just hope we beat the gooners to Curtis Davies. This boy is class and CL quality. He is a born defender. He did what many CL defenders could not do that is mark our Henry.

I'm a realist but I think we must try to convince people to come to WHL b'cos we WILL be CL materials the coming season.

We must look at certain benchmark to get that CL spot. The team's depth and quality must rival Liverpool and Arsenal next season.to stand a chance. Not forgetting the likes of Newcastle would not just roll over for us.

This is a time for taking risk and lets do it big time I say.Invest and Invest Mr Levy, lets go for broke and stun the footballing world with some of our purchases. We have served time with the prudent purchasing policy for the past 2 season. Just seen this link:

FRENCH STAR KEEPS SPURS WAITING

Wigan defender Pascal Chimbonda is going to keep Tottenham Hotspur waiting on his future after admitting he will decide his future after the world cup.

"It is not difficult to put it out of my mind," he said on Sky Sports News.

"I am concentrating on the World Cup and nothing will distract me from that.

"I will think about my future after the World Cup.

"At the moment I am only thinking about Germany."

Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the above link is true about Chimbonda, this stinks of him waiting till after the world cup to see if any better offers come along, which will mean there is no guarantee he will join us.

Im afraid this goes for all the players we're after that are going to the world cup...Kuyt, Ribery etc...they will all wait to see who else comes in for them before deciding. Thats just the way football is now when buying big name foreign stars, they make a decision based on the best money offered and whether a club is in champs league, uefa or whatever, no sentiments involved.

This is why we absolutely need to not sell any of our established players till we have got the signature on the contract for any proposed replacements, or we end up with last minute panic buys like Rasiak after selling Kanoute, eg we would be screwed if we sold Defoe before having definately signed a Kuyt or Huntelaar or a RVN etc

Apart from C.Cole (non world cup)I cannot see us making many other signings in the transfer market till any of our targets finish their world cup campaigns.
