"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory." Bill Nicholson. SPURS

Spurs go third in thriller.

Spurs took all three points when none looked the more likely down at The Valley on Saturday. King, Mido and Robbie Keane ensured we fought back from 2-0 down for victory.

Spurs started more brightly with around 4 corners in the first ten minutes as we took the game to Charlton. However it was Bent who scored first after beating our offside trap. Naybet and Stalteri both failed to step up and Bent ran through to poke the ball past Robinson. Charlton made it 2-0 just after half time when once again Bent broke the offside trap to curl the ball around Robinson. It looked like game over with two cheap goals that we had conceded.

However Spurs were able to hit back almost immediately. Mendes took a good free kick into the box that somehow found its way through to King who stuck out a leg to turn it home. Charlton continued to push forward and Spurs were able to catch them on the break. The ball broke to Tainio who played a good ball into the box for Mido to run onto and lash the ball home for the equaliser. 2-2 and the initiative was with Spurs. Jenes was immediately substituted for Keane in a bold move as we went for the win. Jenes is a bit like Carrick when he first came. Good player with great potential but yet to show it. Lazy balls and a laid back attitude meant he was our worst player yet again and I was just surprised it was Mendes and not Jenes who went off first.

Charlton then had more chances to score a third but they were rushed and poorly taken. With Mido lying prone with a knock Charlton refused to put the ball out and continued their attack. Lennon was able to break quickly to Keane who laid it off to Defoe. Defoe pushed forward and then actually made a great pass for Keane to take one touch and power it past the Charlton Keeper to take all three points.

Looking at the stats it tells an interesting story – We had more possession, shots, shots on target and corners than Charlton across the 90 minutes. In fact Charlton only beat us on the yellow card count. We thoroughly deserved the victory after fighting back from 2-0 down. We just need to practice the offside trap a bit better. Also Keane has now scored the same amount of goals as Defoe in less games and deserves to start against Everton in two weeks. Also, who noticed how the Charlton fans ran out of their seats and into the stand when it started to rain. Pathetic. Great atmosphere today guys as well.

Spurs now sit third.

COYS!

tProud of the lads today, showed real fight and determination that has perhaps been lacking so far this season.

Agreed, Keane has to be given a chance, Defoe is not on the ball.

great win for the spurs... few things though, davids shouldnt be on the left. put him in the middle, kick out jenas, switch mido to left wing, and put keane alongside defoe... happy days

I think Jol is doing a great job making Keane hungry again. Keane is desperate to play, so when he does will take his chance - thats what competition for places achieves.

Defoe seems to be Jol's fav striker - but as we saw yesterday, got a yellow card, so a few more and a suspension will be due. Will we miss him when he is suspended? probably not as Keane can step in. Same with injuries.

How many times in the past have Spurs burnt out over Christmas or at the end of the season as some players have play literaly every game.

We have a strong squad for once & the only player that is irreplacable IMO is Mido - have seen Rasiak play for Spurs but he looked tired and not quiet ready, hopefully he will get better.

I also would like to mention about the abuse some Spurs players are getting from there own fans......why??

Jenas - anyone who is slating him will be eating there words, you do not get many players who are 22 years old who have over 10 caps for England. He is 22 and may take timt to settle. I bet the so called fans who abuse Jenas are the same fans who used to abuse Carrick.

Stalteri - ok he isnt playing well, but look at the clean sheets we have had since his arrival (not just down to him). He seems to be the most vocal of all the defenders, organisisng the back line. Again he is another player who will get better when he settles (the memory of Pires & Henry being average when they signed, but once they settled)

Top six this year is looking good, with a bit of luck we may just get that 4th spot.

It's about time we came back & won a game when we looked beaten, & not the other way around! We've got fight & of course a brill huggy-luvvy Jolly manager.

I luv it when Jol gives the lads a big hug, & you can see on the lads faces how much they respect & appreciate him. Even Keane, who must be frustrated with only sub appearances, there seems much warmth between them. We must keep Keane.

Also, any news on Mido? Is it just cramp or something worse?

once again defoe was anonymous for 90% of the match; his tantrums just show why charlton and west ham call him "Little S**t" after he 'walked' out on them because things did not go his way. He nearly did it to the Spurs a little while ago. He should be dropped for Keane who is scoring but just watch then how much he will bleat and act like the juvenile when that happens.

Why do we as spurs fans get so exited we are not a top six side the players we have bought are pretty substandard, Defoe is not a good player this season, Stalteri is useless and slow, davids is past it, Dawson is just a horse, we are just not good enough why didn't we try and sign darren bent we could have had him for far less than we spent on other crap players. We are just not good enough to sustain this we should have lost to Villa, Charlton were by far the superior side and still can se how we managed to beat them just got very very lucky. Mido is awful. we will finish in 12th or 13th place
