Trasnfer Update

Lee has now been confirmed by the club. He has joined for around £1.4 million after we were apparently tipped off by our old chum Frank Arnesen on his last day of employment for the club. Lee hd an option in his contract that he could talk to any club who bid £1.4 million or so so we bid just the right amount much to the displeasure of PSV.

Jol said:

He has played at PSV for three years and was in the South Korea side which reached the semi-finals of the World Cup," reported the Head Coach. "He has played in the Champions League - reaching the semi-finals last season - and is the best left-back in Holland.

"A number of Italian clubs would have liked to have taken him and we are happy to have got him to our club. He is an attacking full-back and is a big star in Korea having achieved so much success in Europe.

"I am very happy he is coming to Spurs and very proud of it. Like Edgar Davids he has made the decision to come to Spurs and it is a big thing for the club."

The club has also confirmed that Erik Edman is on his way to Rennes. A surprise sale as it does leave us weak in that position if Lee gets inujured or suspended.

Reto Ziegler has joined Hamburg on a season long loan. He will team up with ex Spur Atouba. Lets hope he doesn't learn too many tricks off him.

Jermaine Jenas has joined for anything between £7 million to £9 million which is being paid over 5 years. Without having to shell out all in one go it should leave us with cash for further strengthtening later today or in januray.

Robbie Keane has been strongly linked with a move to Everton with BBC Radio 5 claiming he was there for a medical this morning but there has been no follow up in the press. It is highly unlikely we will let Keane move without ensuring we have bought a replacement for Kanoute.

Speaking of which there is no new striker to announce yet but from what people are saying around the message boards we could still expect some further activity tonight.

COYS!

The Keane speculation is absolute rubbish as we have nothing to gain from selling him. We are now trying to bring in an extra striker so we have four front men battling to play, so why would we sell Keane? It is rubbish, the only way it would happen is if Jol had somehow managed to snap up luca(...?) and Govou, but I think that would be a step backwards not forwards after Keane and Kanoute.

very happy with Jenas coming in as well as Lee - however, getting a bit worried about the size of our squad. We could do with getting rid of Brown and Mendes. What do you think?

we need a striker !!!! not sure who though, maybe govou! Does anyone else think we will sign a striker by tonights deadline???

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree. We should farm out Huddlestone on loan and sell Davis and Brown. We do need a stiker buy Lee Barnard and El Hamoudi (probably the wrong spelling) surely deserve a chance. Govou can play wide as well which is good but he is no better than what we already have up front. I think we should wait until January for Dirk Kuyt. Trust me he'd be worth the wait!

I think if we're going to play 442 then we need another striker, however, with the signing of jenas it makes me think that BMJ wants to play 433 with carrick davids and jenas as the 3 midfielders?

6:49 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jenas was a good buy and Lee will allow us to push up to attack, Keane leaving would be a killer blow and would not happen because we would only be left with two strikers, depending on whether we make a purchase by the end of the day. The squad is big, but its a good thing having players compete for positions, however with Lee the new left back we have no cover for when he gets injured!?

6:49 PM, August 31, 2005

im happy about the 2 signing's so far although i think unless we get Govou or Lucarelli in then we are doomed until at least January because i really don't think Carlton Cole on loan until January could do the job for us, he scored fuck all for Villa last term!

Also i'm a little dissapointed seeing edman leave as now we need more cover for left back with Ziegler also departing, and now we only have Lennon as a real threat to Reid's position, i think we've made 2 mistakes there.

Out the door should have been brown, davis (only because he's injury prone), bunjevcevic (although no1 would want him), johnny jackson and possibly mendes (although he does has some passing ability and class).

Please Sir Levy get us Govou and Lucarelli, then we are sorted for the whole season with nothing to worry about except for finishing in the top 5/6.

so are we gonna buy a striker? or are we waiting til januarys window?

6:50 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

At least two of Brown, Mendes and Davis need to join bunjy and Johnnie Jackson in being shown the door.

I really like Brown, especially his effort, but just don't think he has as much quality as Tainio and Davids.

Both Mendes and Davis looked quality before their respective injuries but don't reckon Jol rates them as much (since Brown always played ahead of them) and think it is better to sell them rather than let their value waste away in our reserve team.

Would hate to see Keane leave and am slightly worried by Jol letting Edman and Ziegler follow Atouba out the door. Always thought we needed cover for LB and Lee in to replace Atouba would have been great. Where do we go now if Lee gets injured? Kelly is class but didn't look that comfortable at LB against Chelsea.

Lee is a good buy, but I think Jenas is a waste, the money could have been put to better use on a stiker as we are very light up front. We should make Livorno an offer they can't refuse before the deadline is pasta.

El Hamdaoui is injured, but for how long who knows. I feel we have made a mistake letting Kanoute go and not replacing him. We may be ok until January but I would love one more signing now. Bunjevcevic by the way to all those keep saying to get rid of him, is now part of management. He is around because of his loyalty his experience and his willingness to play in the reserves alongside kids. This player is now as much Tottenham as anyone and thats why he will stay. Stalteri can play left back if needed as could Gardner. Jenas will probably play wide right for now or fill in for Davids. Sell Pamarot, Jackson, and one of Davis/Brown/Mendes. I reckon Mendes as he could cause us the most grief about not being played.

7:13 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Edman was a solid defender, so Lee had better be something really good for me to understand the swap.
I can´t understand the Jenas signing. Why spend 8 million on a midfielder, and buy a second-rate forward for 2-3 million and not spend the full 12m on a top quality striker??!
We already have enough options in midfield. We now seem in danger of having too many players in midfield and nobody up front.
We desperately need a big target man before the deadline or we could undo all the good work made in the summer.
Keane is despensable because it looks like we will be playing with 5 in midfield especially in away games and he is not a consistant goalscorer. We need a big man upfront!

spurs have the moey to but a striker or two as no one pays up front and always in stages, but the question is why would they come to tottenham, won nothing yet altough this year looks promising and were not looking for second grade strikers we are looking for a first choice for defoe then a playmate for kean as mido is only a loan and i think that will be the last of him come the summer. anything got to be better than kanote his attitude stank.

Can't believe we sold Edman. Apart from the fact that we're now short of cover, he was in my Sun Dreamteam. I wonder how much it would cost to get Bent from Charlton?

RE: LB cover...
Not too worried about this. We seem to forget that Pamarot is a month away from returning. Between Kelly, Lee, Pamarot and Stalateri, we have more than adequate cover in those areas. Seems like a smart piece of business to me.

We need another striker full stop. Talk of Keane going now is nuts unless we have 2 strikers coming in as we are one down already. MJ will not sell him especially as Mido will be out for a while now (2 down temporarily. A lot is expected of the team this season, and thankfully we seem to have a squad capable of reliving some magic. MJ is shrewd and ambitious - I will be suprised if he doesn't pull something off before midnight to strengthen the attack.

daniel levy has tried to do his usual wait till last minute option he does every season, its back fired big time, we should have secured kuyt then sold kanute or keane.BIG FCUK UP
letting zeigler go out on loan is obviously because we made a mistake buying reid but we gotta play him to get our money back, and he will be a decent player but wont get us to that next level as he has no pace or stamina for a top 6 team.
does anyone know if this is Keanes last season or do we have a clause that gives us the option to keep him for another season or 2, someone answer as letting him do a campball is shocking business.
i reckon we'll finish 8th or 9th this year if we dont sign a top class striker before 12 im sad to say, think weve fcuked it up by waiting till last minute on the kuyt deal and its backfired on us

disappointed with Ziegler coming I thought the club had big hopes for him, he is nearly 20 years old which in the current climate is first team age. I always liked kanoute his control was "glue like" and was a poor man's Henry, look forward to watching hime partner Saviola at Seville.
If we signed Kuyt, Arsenal and Liverpool would cry, never in my lifetime has our squad looked as close to Arsenal for quality and depth. If Henry is injured they will struggle.

The Goons are reading into our transfer activities because they have none of their own.
Don't worry, you can read your own in January when Henry joins the Russians & you sell out again.
This will coincide with you slipping down the table & your new library will have seating for 60 k but will have only 25 k in it.
That place makes me laugh, no wonder they are playing in that boring coloured shite kit.

Going back to a serious topic carlton cole on loan until january with the option to extend it until the end of the season. Would this really be a bad signing? look at the evidence, it is now 10 past which leaves us with slightly under 2 hours to sign a tall forward. Cole was one of the most promising youths a couple of years ago but has now fizzled out. At villa he was shit. So was crouch, so would any stricker with that shit supplying them with that service. I think with cole playing on a more regular basis and under the guidance of jol he will provide a decent enough service. Then we can take it from there. Its got to be better than the thin gront line we have at the moment.

10:08 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

has anyone mentioned Adebayor, the Monaco forward?

10:11 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

News just in that we have signed Shevchenko on a season long loan deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Andriy's bruv Miklov....he's a part time amateur, full time goat herder!)

10:11 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Cole would be an interesting addition & one that would follow with our current policy of buying younger players.
i personally feel as though he does have something to offer & your points are valid.

However earlier in the day i did read on News Now the possibility of Eider Gudjohnson possibly joining. Did anyone hear this or have further info ??

10:13 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now Eidur would be a great signing, proven scorer would work great with either Defoe or Keane.....and has enough talent to knock in 10 plus a season unlike Kanoute.......although no confirmation of this anyhwere??

10:15 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I heard a rumor about Eider Gudjohnson on a season long loan deal.

Don't know how acurate that one is.

10:16 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

why would gudjohnsen come...Mourinho loves him. Plus it would cost 10m and they only have crespo and drogba as vialble options up front.

10:16 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Gudjohnsen will not be coming to the lane as he can play attacking midfield for chelsea and is third choice stricker in a team which aim to reach the final in all competitions. Thats a lot of games and drogba and crespo will need resting. Remember mourinho phoned gudjohnsen when he first got the job to confirm he wont be going anywhere. I reckon he still has the same opinion.

In fairness lads,

JJ is an awsome player its a shame it got voted young player of the year as it seems to heap pressure and jinx players but he's definitely our fox in the box. Been a while since we had onme of them at the lne and we all know but reluctantly say davids is too slow to bag us goals and carrick will take a little while longer to make the play consistently. As for edman, did you not see any of the games last term, liabilty! Stalteri can fill in left, no worries mate! We can work without a striker, you worry about losing kanoute is that because he's a 20 a season man?? good ridance i say.. Defoe up with anytwo of jenas, keane, routledge(when fit) and tainio(he has the moves,sh*t hot) we have no worries.... its been years since we bagged quality players by the bag load. We've got arguably third fourth most talented squad going, only downside a little experience but im looking forward to our most prosperous season..... i'm sure Marty is workin his ass off until twelve tonight to get another soon to be legend arrive at the lane!(and thats not three point lane you chelsea scum, we'll take three back at the bridge, on circumstance we were the better team last saurday!

11:11 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not going to happen folks. We all thought it would, a la Reid & Dawson, but we knew they were at WHL having a medical long before 11.00pm...

But don't panic. Hoddle panicked once and tried to buy Michael Ricketts at the last minute. Thank God that didn't come off.

I'd rather wait until January for Kuyt than panic buy someone now.

11:12 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday for the Feyenoord game, and I have to say DL/MJ have got it spot on pulling out of the Kuyt deal, overated, overweight, not the tallest, not the best in the air, slow. Powerful yes, an eye for goal? 29 in the Dutch 1st is probably worth 10 in the prem.

Time for Brown/Davis and Mendes to all go. Teemu,Edgar,Carrick and Jenas is plenty, chuck in Huddlestone who is a better footballer than the 1st three.5 players is plenty for 2 sideways passing midfield holding roles

11:12 PM, August 31, 2005

Anonymous Anonymous said...

One more quality striker is all we need to have a great season. Sadly I don't think we are going to get one. We shouldn't have sold Kanoute.
