Kanoute Sold

Freddie Kanoute has been sold to Seville for a yet undisclosed fee. Rumors are that we are receiving around £5 million for the striker. Freddie has agreed personal terms already and is now on his way to Spain to pass his medical.

Freddie Kanoute joined Spurs from the Canning Town Social and Bingo Club for £3.5million scoring 21 goals in 72 appearanceses. That is almost 1 goal in 4 games so it was never the best strike rate going. However when you compare the best strike partnership at Spurs it was always Kanoute and Keane followed by Kanoute and Defoe. However Kanoute could be very lazy and was happy to jump ship and go play for his country while we sat in the bottom three with Pleat as the boss. He then refused to got to Mauritius on the club tour at the end of last season.

It is assumed that we have a replacement lined up with all the signals now pointing towards Dirk KUYT from Feyenoord. He is another big man and would fit in with Jol's desired front two of one little, one big. Another piece of good news from this is it makes it much more unlikely that Keane will be leaving in some dumb swap deal for Jenas.

The Shelf would like to wish Kanoute well and hopes he remembers to turn up for more matches in Seville than he did while he was at Spurs.

COYS!

Goodbye Freddie, you will be remembered fondly. You gave us moments of sheer magic, you held up the ball well, you were on occasion our very best player. You didn't do it every week, but I for one don't think it was for lack of trying. Best of luck mate, and thanks.

Basically a very lazy player, had the ability but only showed it now and again. A very good bit of business to sell him, as long as we replace him!!!

Yeah good luck mate, I thought he was class and could control the ball on his chest like no other. More provider he can hold the ball up well and bring other into the game, think he needs to be replaced with similar quality.

while he could be tepmramental, He was class for us, his assists were regular and will be missed, his abiity to hold the ball up on the edge of the area was excellent. I remain a fredi fan! However, maybe it was right to let him go, but lets not have any recriminations.

I've always resented his ludicrous decision to go and play for Mali, leaving us potentially facing relegation. The club acted positively then, bringing in Defoe and scoring enough to get into mid-table. Kanoute was decent, but nothing more. His finishing was generally woeful, and he was relegated with WHam. Mido, at 21, is a far better prospect, no question about that. Yeah, Freddie gave us bits of magic, but I wont miss him. I could happily have punched him around the start of 2004, and now look forward to better things. Lets face it, he's never been in a team thats finished anywhere in the league, and he's 27 years old now...tells you something IMHO

Freddie was never there in the big game when we needed him, people compared
him with Henry ! what when he was twelve.
Ask any West Ham fan their thoughts they may say he was closer to Henry yes
Henry Cooper.
BYE BYE Freddie a good luck.
Come on you spurs

The decision was madness. I'd have sold defoe for 20 odd million kept fredi and bought owen.

It's sad to see Kanoute leave, however we do need someone more prolific and we all know Freddi will never be the one. Will miss his gracefulness & his wonderful chest (p.s: I'm not a faggot) though.

Thanks Freddi & goodbye.

That has cheered me up no end to see him leave the club. The only bit of rubbish we stole off west ham!!!
We can at last buy someone who compliments defoe and keane. You watch now if we get a striker who actually wants to work for the team. We can really live up to the expectations people expect of us this year!!!

Freddie did a good job, unfortunately never on a consistent basis. Also he annoyed me immensly when he buggered off to play for Mali when we really needed him. Still, I wish the guy good luck in Spain. Hopefully we can sign a good replacement (Kuyt or Ashton anyone?)

Bye Bye Fredi, whatever else is said, his insane ball control will be missed. Would have been nice to see some more goals come as a result, and hopefully thats what his replacement will bring. Thought perhaps we could have got a bit more than £4.4M, especially given the potential cost of a new striker. 10M for Kuyt? Is he really that good?

yeh great news in my opinion, he showed alot of promise but never really proved it on a consistent basis. ever since he decided to jump up in the area and punch the ball like michael jordan against liverpool in last years league cup it was it!!! he had to go!!

however its only a good news if we replace him with someone in the mould of dirk kuyt or ashton. then we can be happy with martin and daniel.

come on u spurs

"Mido is a better prospect at 21"
I think you'll find he's not actually our player.
Kanoute was something we needed, a player that can hold the ball up create goals etc. Not every striker in the PL scores 20 goals a season, in fact I think you'll find very few do.
I would rather Keane went than Kanoute, Keane's heart is not in it.

Goodluck for the future Fredi, we appreciate some of the fine performances you put in and wish you all the success for the future.

Hopefully we will meet again on the playing field and do battle in some european competition, where you will be welcomed back to the lane to cheers of gratitude.

Good Luck

Sorry to see him go. Can be a lazy player but brilliant on his day. very unselfish and always layed on goals for his strike partners. doesn't mind bieng on the bench. Whart a sub! Doesn't detract from the fact that Keane MUST go! Always whinging and does not appear to want to sign the contract offered.. Will leave for nothing! Bring on Kuyt and promote El hamoudia or whatevr his name is..

Imagine Freddie with his touch, pace, eye for a pass and tricks...but with the attitude and aggression of, say, Ian Wright. Now that would have been one hell of a player.

Still, when the guy admits that he has trouble getting motivated for some games, I say we're better off without him.

Right then Daniel...if the rumours are true that you've got £10m burning a hole in your pocket, forget heading north for JJ...head south west and go get Michael Owen.

JD and MO leading the line - two 20-goal-a-season men - now that's what I want to see down at The Lane!

And remember...Owen scores plenty with his head (besides which, Reid and Routledge can't cross for shit).

And remember...Owen scores plenty with his head (besides which, Reid and Routledge can't cross for shit). why would we buy michael owen if we already got to small strikers that are better than him, and as for reid cant cross a ball i think u better watch a few more games.

I personally think Fredi was good, but if we had to lose a striker i am glad it was him and not Keane (and not just cuz his name is on the back of the shirt i bought...).

Why not flog Keane as well and get Kuyt & Owen in.......or is that just being stupid.

kanoute going would have been much sweeter if he had taken carrick with him. tainio and brown would be better than tainio and carrick, thats if edgar isn't gonna play. keane's no whinger either but not great with defoe, dont know much about the new dutch guy linked but am happy with the one that matters, except with respect to him playing softie carrick

I don't remember seeing too many assists from reid...he's too fat, too slow and can't cross! Get ziegler back in the team and send lardy boy away to the fat farm! And defoe is nowhere near the finished article..so how anyone can claim that he and keane are each better than owen is rubbish

Lads how can anyone criticise MJ, or any of the boys who have started the season. We have a fantastic start. We have only lost 1 game out of 4 very tricky football matches. Conceding two goals. Both with ten men and against the premier league champions, and all of this without King Leadley!!!!!! Reid may not be the fittest of players but he has got a tremendous left foot, and for those of you who are slatting Micky Carrick you guys really need to wake up, MC is class and can only get better playing alongside Edgar.

Lee will strengthen the left side and is lightening quick this guy can do thew 100 meters in just under 11 seconds. I dont care who you are that is fast. Jenas is also a done deal apparently for £8m plus some furhter payments as for a striker Kuijt will happen after the world cup so Lucarelli will probably sign as a stop gap for next season
