Spurs draw.

Spurs drew 2-2 with Boca Juniors today in our opening game of "The Peace Cup". Boca took an early lead before Spurs hit back with an excellent finish from Jermaine Defoe and a cool strike from Mido. Boca hit back after half time with a blistering strike from the edge of the area.

Spurs lined up with Cerny in goal with Marney, King, Dawson and Bunje along the back four. Across the middle of the park was Tainio on the right, Carrick and Mendes in the middle with Reid on the left. Defoe and Mido were up front.

Spurs were poor in the first ten minutes but got into our stride after that. You have to remember that this was only the second match of pre-season so fitness levels were never going to be anywhere near Boca's as there season has just finished. Tainio went about his business quietly and played some nice balls. Carrick was ok and it was really good to see Pedro Mendes back in the starting eleven and he looked good. Mido has clearly lost a lot of weight, being much thinner in the face than when he first joined. He took his goal well and held up the play reasonably well. Defoe took his goal well.

There were a few changes later in the match, the main ones being Routledge and Huddlestone. Tom looked composed and never threatened and Routledge was putting himself about a bit. He needs to put the ball across earlier and also had a good chance to score. Keane put a great ball through for him but he tripped himself up.

The one player who should be worried about his performance was Andy Reid. His crossing was poor, he never once beat a man and never really imposed himself down the left. People will claim he was unfit as it is early days but he has had the same amount of pre-season as everyone else. He needs to raise his game quickly or he will find himself out of the starting eleven.

So a good workout for the lads. The next game is against Sundown, Live on Eurosport at 11am.

COYS!

They looked pretty good tho'... sth american teams are never easy to play against, particularly with their technical ability, goals were well taken and we generally looked quite cohesive as a unit. COYS

agree with the reid comments......i feel like we got andy Sinton back on the left!!

i wanna see more pacey acquisitions. if we do buy one or two more, they must be pacey.

The thing that worries me about our team is the movement in the midfield. It often looks static to me.We need to see more off-the-ball movement, or maybe we havent got the players smart enough. we'll have to wait and see!

teemu dont look a bad buy tho!

lets hope we see lennon and routledge earlier on monday!

Was impressed in genral. Defoe looked very sharp and took his goal really well. Mido looked good and i would start him ahead of kanote, he offers more and again finished well. The defence looked a bit shakey but will be better after a few games and with our full backs in. I thought Tianno was very impressive and will be our attacking midfielder. He looked creative, and maybe could start on the left ahead of Reid who was the worst player on the pitch, worse than bungie. Can lennon do a job on the left? Reid lacks pace and a trick to beat a man. Routlege came on and was good, he should start on the right. He has pace, showed a few stepovers and also joined the attack well and could have been played in for the winner but triped.

Get us Lee from PSV. He can play anywhere on the left. Reid can be our expensive back up, for West Ham to buy later.

The defence looked pretty shaky but Cerny was a safe pair of hands - not sure if i agree with the awful eurosport commentator who said we may have unearthed another Petr Cech tho!

Midfield was solid tho and come first day of the prem i would expect the midfield 2 b Ziegler - Carrick Tainio and Routledge unless we dont get another attacking central midfielder in!

Reid looked still a few yards behind the pace and lacking that last bit of skill 2 get past defenders n get a cross in!

Upfront we look good tho, I wuld start with Defoe and Kanoute they work the best together - Keane works the hardest for the team tho so should swap and change him wiv defoe and mido with kanoute throughout the season (If none of them gets sold or again we get sum1 of a better calibre in before the seasons first game against the Pompey!)

Hopefully in the game on monday we can pick our game up a notch or two and start playing the ball a bit more and run at their defence, another typical feature which worries me is how many times we let the boca attack just run at us without closing them down,if we do that week in week out in the prem were gona get punished bigtime!!

Spurs will win the Peace Cup and hopefully will give the boys a good lift goin in 2 the season and hopefully we can achieve a uefa cup place at the end of the year!!

Reid was completly shit... I cant beleive it. Think Cerny was 5 stars, as so was Defoe. Tanioa nd Mendes played well. I think Marney as right back is not an option. Looking forward to see Stalteri playing there. All in all, not bad.

Reid isn't cut out to be a winger. He will never have the ability to take on players.

ManicSpur got it spot on. How often did Mido & Defoe have to trot off to the left wing???

Keep Reidy as a left sided midfielder and bring in an attacking midfielder.

andy reid is a good player and will prove himself eventually. Hes just finding his feet at the moment and eating a few to many pies by the looks of it. Once he find outs how to not eat that many pies he will be ok
