Agreement with Chelsea reached.

[London, Friday 24 June 2005] Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Chelsea Football Club today announced that they have reached agreement in principle regarding Frank Arnesen. Formal documentation is to be signed by 30 June 2005.

The terms are confidential and will not be disclosed.

Ends

The above statement is all we are to receive apparently. What a complete farce that the fans are not informed about what has been agreed. It obviously involves no players and must be a cash settlement.

However the Telegraph claims the figure is between £6 million and £10 million pounds which could increase further probably due to the performance of Chelsea on the pitch. I also hope there is a clause that the Mafia can't come near any of our players in the future.

It's not a farce at all
Levy has worked his ass off to get what is hopefully a tidy sum, and does not want the club's transfer kitty to be disclosed all over the back pages

the figure is 6millions pounds according to danish television station TV2...i think that Levy turned down the chance of taking players because he has a big trasfer lined up and needs the cash (at least i hope he has)...but yeh its a joke that the fans were left on tenterhooks and the statement just realeased is so brief and vague.

Levy has had no other option. Either 1)He put Arnesen on gardening leave, when he would work for Chelsea anyway and get a massive bonus in two years.
2) Went to the Premier league and the courts, where the PL would do bugger all, except a max of 3 points (Chelsea finished how many points clear last season!)and the courts, involving a legal battle that could last YEARS and cost the Earth
3) Wrangled out a deal where we get a significant boost to our transfer kitty, and Arnesen begins in Sept. (plus the probable caveat that none of our players are to be targets.

I'd go for 3 every time. Well done Levy.

this is no way a farce...
Levy has to do what's best for the club...in this case get what he can.
of course if the arse or manure were in our shoes they'd be pushing the points deduction buttons...why?, well that would be the best option for them.

...actually, maybe manure would want the money!

Best outcome for THFC from a bad situation = well done in my books.
The only farce is that broken rules only get investigated if someone complains. A pirates charter methinks

Chelsea fan here.

Am ashamed that the club are behaving so badly. Just coz we have the cash doesn't mean we should bully everyone else into submission. If anything, we should be setting the standard for fair play.

Having said that, hopefully this is the last of this crap.

6 million should mean that you have at least one decent midfielder come August ;)

CFC Fan ...you shouldnt be ashamed mate.. the way the media is targeting CFC is a complete and total joke... the amount of fabrication is just amazing... say if Van Persie was a CFC player - how do you think the media would have presented his situation...

Even the Barcelona case was a total joke.... Anders Frisk was quoted in the Danish/Swedish media saying that Mourinho was right (Riijkart DID approach him) - something that the UK media totally burried coz they want the CFC hate campaing to roll on of cause... another JOKE!

And then we have leading representatives from Europe's governing football calling Mourinho all sorts of childish things.... maybe they should focus on sorting out their refereeing scandal in Germany first.... its all just anti CFC bandwagon - but dont dispair - the premiership will remain at its spiritual home STAMFORD BRIDGE - GO THE BLUES!!!

...and by the way... Arnesen is Danish - he is not English - he was offered 4 times the money at CFC compared to what he was paid at Spurs (an English club) - why the hell should he be turning down an offer from a better club - paying 4 times the money - enabling him to set himself (and his family) up for life??? Get real people!! if this was in any other industry than football this wouldnt even be debatable.... you got your compensation - now go away and enjoy your newly acguired bag of sweets kids......

Dear Paxton Road...

1. None of us know exactly how the approach was made so you CANT say that the rules where broken - anyway if you are so bend out of shape about the rules being broken you should have reported CFC to the PL - but no - as good little pros******* you took the money (SO PLZ DONT BLAME ARNESEN FOR DOING THE SAME).

2. These rules only apply in England - nowhere on the continent are the rules the same - so the rules suck - lets get another Bosman!!!!!

NB: At last count I believe in the UK legal system you are still innocent until proven guilty - and since no charge will now ever come into effect - dont assume any guilt.

And anyway - many players and football staff - have been tapped up in the past but now its "evil cfc" and its a big deal.... plzzzz BANDWAGON!! What happened to Ferguson when Stam ADMITTED in his biography that he had been tapped up??? Even the John Obi Mikkel case is a complete farce - if you could be bothered actually doing some research and discover the underlying facts of the case.... its CFC hate campaign... and its a complete joke.... its ridiculous and laughable..... Ciao - said my piece now.

When you are speaking to people of such intelligence you have to speak in a language they understand!! "WHAT UTTER B0LL0X!!" Hate campaign my arse!..you've been at it the last two years and you'll be at it for the next few!! All tottenham did today was show that we're not gonna be pushed over easily!! you paid 6m for a scout.. haha!!!,, nice one levy!!

Because of your beloved THFC, CFC know that they can tap any player or any club staff, pay ransom and get away with it. SHAME ON YOU!!!!

How funny CFC fans talking about respect.Approaching everyone elses players and staff illegally is a very respectable conduct isnt it? how can CFC fans talk about respect and keep a straight face is beyond any belief.

- Arnesen was a Director. I am aware of no civilised country where members of the board are allowed to solicit a new position with a competitor - in any field. This is not about nuances of football regulations. The rules surrounding Arnesen are far more stringent and clear than say Cole, or any other layer in the simple fact he is (was) a director.

Those rules, which protect every walk of private business will never change.

Understand that, and the penny might drop and you chelsea boys can consider dropping this 'everyone hates us...vendetta...biased press' nonsence.

...if you dont know any civilized country where a director can jump ship you obviously dont know sh*t about the corporate world - you must be some 14 year old kid with no experience what so ever...

and when you can say that comments like the ones in the telegraph recently dont amount to CFC percecution - you know sh*t in that department either...

how about the ridiculous comments from the top of UEFA - totally laughable ...

and UEFA checking under Faria's beanie for microphones.. haha how bloody mickey mouse is that...

get your facts right....

the fact is that Arnesen was way too good for Spurs to begin with - you should be happy that you had him for as long as you did......

great for CFC that we got Arnesen and 6m is cheapo - we just established that every wh*** has their price... yours was 6m apparently....

I am a director of two companies.
In two countries. But that is a moot point as arguing matters of rules with a chelsea fan is futile.

My facts are straight. I suggest you do some research.

Directors of course move or 'jump ship'as you put it, but you CANNOT SOLICIT EMPLOYMENT WITH A COMPETITOR WHILST BEING A DIRECTOR. Rules is rules as they say and Arnesen was caught with his pants down.

If he was as smart as everyone is giving him credit for he should have said nothing, quietly resigned and joined your lot. Between him and your lot, the incompetence is laffable...but then with so much money, why worry about it right?

Good luck to you. I hope the championship was as satisfying for you as your previous hard fought and worthy triumphs.

One day, when we all fought with the same weapons, victory I remember, was sweeter.

It's all well and good tapping up players and directors and bringing them on board, but these are the guys who are prostituting themslves, and I for one do not want that type of player/director at Spurs. Campbell was a classic, are you telling me he wasn't talking to Arsenal when he claimed to be focussed on signing a new contract at Spurs? Let's face it, outside the lane, you are struggling to find any morality in the capital.
