WOO HOO!

A great performance all round by Spurs ensured we thrashed Villa by four clear goals to move above Middlesborough with only two games remaining. The UEFA cup spot is still on and, like Frank Arnesen said yesterday, lies in our own hands. Win the final two games and we definitely qualify via the league.

Spurs took the lead as early as the fifth minute. Mark Deleny had made a good run into our box but tumbled under pressure from Edman. It was a tough one for Clattenberg to call as he was behind play (as usual) and his view was blocked. However I have seen penalties given in that situation so maybe Edman was a bit fortunate. Robinson then launched a magnificent ball forward which Kanoute was able to control, all be it with his arm, and slot pass Postma, the Villa keeper. 1-0 Spurs and maybe a bit fortunate, like I said, but it is about time we had some luck after Old Trafford etc.

Villa continued to look bright and their build up play was neat but they never troubled Robinson too much after that. I was a bit nervous after they won a couple of corners but they never really took advantage. Spurs added more pressure when they scored their second. Simon Davies won the ball and stormed 70 yards up the pitch to win a corner. At this point I think a few fans had to sit down as Spurs actually counter attacked with pace! From the resulting corner Ledley was able to prod home after some shocking Villa defending. It was 3-0 soon afterwards. Keane was able to get the ball to Kanoute under a heavy Villa challenge for him to fire home his second of the afternoon.

Villa were back in the hunt just before half time after a dodgy penalty. The ball struck Dawson's arm - more ball to hand but he did have them raised - a tough one to call. Gareth Barry put it past Robbo.

Villa were much improved in he second half, well for about 15 minutes anyway and kept us pegged back in our own half for a while. A second goal for Villa would have put us in trouble but Reid scored a cracker. Villa then collapsed and allowed Kelly to score the fifth after good overlap play.

It was a great performance all round. Reid played well as did Simon Davies. He ran all afternoon and created a lot down the right. He still can't beat a man but is rapidly improving. Keane worked well with Kanoute and when Defoe came on he should have scored at least once. Dawson had another excellent game and Edman got forward well. He just has to be careful he isn't caught on the wrong side of attacking players.

So we now sit in seventh. However, this win means nothing if we loose against 'Boro come Saturday.

COYS!

what an exciting game!! compared to last weeks defeat at arsenal we looked a different team with pace! yes pace!! The fact is arsenal are probably the quickest team in our league, and they made us look slow, but against villa we had pace and good movement-something Jol may have pointed out after the arsenal. Davies and reid looked impressive, as did sean davis in the middle. Although there were many highlights in the match, for me, the performance of stephen kelly was my pick of the bunch! enthusiastically gettin forward, im pleased the young full back got his second goal-deserved for the effort he put in. I thought our right flank interchanged better than the left, but if we can get both flanks using the kind of movement we did yesterday, there may not be no need for a central playmaker that we seem to be crying out for.

The next game is obviously very important, and if we do go on to win the last two games, im not so sure i want fun time frankie to bring in a load more players to disrupt the ever growing team spirit we have acquired!

Come on you spurs!!!

Its easy after such a grand victory to lose sight that the frailities that this young and improving spurs team has..
If we do want to achieve consistent results and be a big 5 team, we need next season a "leader" of the highest order. All the teams with high aspirations have them; I don't have to name them.
Its is unfortunate Van Bommel has decided to join Barcelona, he would have definitely fit the bill.
Carrick and Davis are competent premier league players who would undoubtably improved with time and might one day promoted to the England squad.
But if we want to make that step up in double quick time,it time to look at the world class midfielders that would give us that extra spark, common'on Arnesen and Levy, splash the cash !

Yesterday was fantastic and there's clearly much at the Lane now to feel good about, but one of the other responses on this thread picked up on a key word: "consistency". If we do miss out on Europe, and there's no shame in that given the number of new players and the age of the squad, I hope it's not by the dreaded two points "lost" at Old Trafford. Because that will only disguise the fact we took, I think, only nine points off the bottom four teams this season...

I believe we should leave the current squad alone, i don't agree with bringing in a top class player when you look at the likes of Carrick and Davis in the middle, they are 2 world class players in their own right! Give the lads another season to gel and we will be up their! My praise to Jol and Arnesan for their brilliance in bringing through GOOD youth!!!

Our best performance this year. We could have scored eight or ten. Davies and Reid, with Kanoute, and inevitably Robinson were the stars, but there were also great performances by King, Dawson, Carrick and Kelly. For me the two weakest links were Davis, who seems to have lost an edge since his injury, and Edman, who always seems to take the defensive back-pass option and could have cost us this game if the early penalty had been awarded against him. But an all-round great performance. Damn, I love seeing Davies (and Kelly) attack defences at full pace!

We saw what Edman can do against Liverpool and he is Sweden's current first choice left back.Swedish players are generally a reliable lot and I think we should give Edman a season or two to settle in.
There are signs that he is improving with every game. Earlier in the season, he hardly venture out beyond the half way point but we are beginning to see that changing.
He knows that for successful induction into EPL, he should make as few mistakes as possible to gain confidence and we should support his sensible approach which many not appeal to many.
He had already involved in a few penalty incidents; most notable of course when he gave away the Man U penalty in our first defeat of the season. He also have a tendency of losing the opponent and allow them to get on the goal side of him on few occasions this season.
All these are growing pains and we must remeber that he is the only foreigner of the current back four and has no prior EPL experience.
From what I have seen so far, he do have all the attributes to be a real spurs favourite; solid defending, nice pace, good temperament and of course a great shot.
He has already scored the best long range shot of the season; lets put it to his bow.We should be hopeful that he could be as successful as Lundberg over at Arsenal.

By the way, did Mido even touch the ball after he came on?

Mido? Did he touch the ball? Were you at the game??? Good God, he came on, with 8 mins to go, - he tackled and tracked back - he made the cross of the game late on - shame Jermain decided that he wasn't gonna get in to head it and if Davis had been a bit more accurate with a return pass on the edge of the area we would have had the fifth goal earlier.

The game was top draw, middlesborough bring it on. if we can get the same rythm as sunday even 'Romans' Cheslki (chelsea) would struggle to beat us. Mido, i hear people rant and rave about him but he aint dun much since january, scored two on his debut and that has been it. We do definately need a leader in the middle of the park. Who i'm not sure? I do question whether the King (ledley) will remain spurs skipper if we do bring in a leader in the middle though. Robinson is a legend best Spurs keeper for seasons. We can beat boro as long as Jol keeps the same atmosphere in the team, and possibly bring bak defoe for keano who has gone off the boil of late. 3 points on teeside here we come.

Top drawer game on sunday. do need a leader in the middle, although carrick should be knocking on the england door, he needs someone to bring out the best in him, possibly Mendes-Carrick partnership when Pedro is fit again. Although if a leader is brought in will the King (ledley) retain the armband? Mido he aint dun much since january, scored two on his debut that was about it. Mayb he aint bin given a long enough run in the side to really get going butwho knows. Robbo is a legend best keeper for seasons. Mention for Dawson, Reidy, Kelly and Davies superb game on sunday. We can beat boro if Jol can keep the same spirit as we showed on Sunday. Mayb swap Defoe for Keano he is off the boil a tad lately. Uefa cup here we come. Staring we 3 points on teeside.

On a different tack: everyone seems to agree that things are looking up but here's a what if: What if we hadn't lost six in a row at the time of the Santini-Jol change-over? At the time I certainly thought we should have won against Charlton, Villa, Arsenal. And more recently we should have beaten Southampton, but lost 1-0 ... If we'd won those games (not to mention the stolen two points against Man U) we'd be in a champions league spot now, right?

A very encouraging aspect that I don't think anyone else has mentioned is that we scored 5 WITHOUT a strike from Keane or Defoe. At last the goals are coming from all over! Now if Davies and Carrick can just get in on the act ...!!!

You are right, we make Villa look like s**t !But just as the other night Arsenal make us look like "boys" (we never hit the s**t level for that night!)

As an Arsenal fan it was strange to see Spurs actually play well, score goals and look good at the back even though the opposition were probably the worst I have seen this season. Dont get too excited because you lot will regularly follow a decent perfomance with a crap one. As much as we hate you, we would much prefer you as our main rivals to the Chavski blue nose mafia.

Keep your decent players out of their grasp ( King, and Defoe,) and you may get even closer to us next year. Lookin forward to hating you more than Chavski again soon,
